need brass casings for my martini henry............450/577 cal.
prefer formed casing or maybe magtech 24 guage brass to form them from.
any source private member or dealer most welcomed.
also need a bullet mold .465 dia. for my new to me toy..........

all help /info welcomed .

Bruno Gross in Fairview, Alberta Alberta usually has hard to find brass like the .577/450 brass.

My friend who was supposed to make me some cases, said he has given up..

I myself am still, diligent in finding a alternative to 7$$ each brass that still needs to be worked to fit properly.
 
thanks all magtech sells 24 guage shotgun brass 23$ for 25..........wich can be formed into martini cases anyone sell or have that around its cheeper but doesnt last as long due to being ballon head cases.
 
well i am starting out have no brass...........i figure 40 or 60 casings would be enough for a while...............
i also need a bullet mold / but a dies set are on the way.

JAMISON BRASS 577-450 MH UNPRIMED $58.99 PER 20
Not sure if they ship here, trying to find out atm
 
Forming the 24 guage Magtech brass to 577-450 is, I understand, no easy job. It requires a special sizing die as an initial step. Then you can use your dies you have ordered to finish up. I see brass for sale evry now and then on the British Militaria Forum. I just bit the bullet and bought my brass at $5.00 and $6.00 each to start. Jamison brass at $3.00 each is a good deal. Brass lasts forever if taken care of. Dave

As an aside I have a chamber adapter to shoot 45/70 in a 577/450. It does work but the bullets in a 45/70 seem to rattle down the bore and don't give good accuracy.

I also have a Hammond Game Getter in 577/450 that uses a .22 blank to shoot a round ball .460 in diameter. This gives real good accuracy so long as I use a .460 round ball. Anything smaller seems to not be very accurate at all. I don't think Brian will make another of these getters either. Apparently it wasnt fun and took a great deal of extra work. Brian's comment was that the brass was "cheesy" - a sign that the brass was machined from cast barr stock rather than rolled from a button.
Machined brass looks nice but will not be as good or durable as rolled brass.
 
most if not all martinis shoot best ( or so ive read ) with bullets .465 to .470 dia, or smaller bullets paper patched to this size range...
and of a bullet weight 405 to 480 grains.........a wheel weight mix for the bullet not pure lead is reccomended .
any comments?

The martini was designed to shoot a round nose 480 grain concave bullet. You can shoot anything in them but you will need to adjust your load.

I have collected images showing the variety of ammo used and it's general construction. While not complete, I find it interesting to see how the old stuff was made.

BTW the CBC 24 gauge brass works well for the 577/450 but it makes better 577 snider cases than martini. The bases on the ones I made have all buldged a bit, not to mention the rim is very thin and if you have a stuck shell, it can damage the case. IMHO.
