My dad wants to buy an AR-15 and is asking me for advice with regards to which one he should get, but I don't know much about those rifles. From what I read here and elsewhere, Colts are expensive and hard to find, and Bushmaster suffers from quality control issues. I've also heard a number of good things about Stag Arms. So does anyone have first hand experience with Stag Arms rifles? How's reliability, fit and finish, etc?

Also, what other options would you consider? What about Armalite?

I'm running a Stag upper on one of my rifles. I'm pleased with it. If I was buying a complete rifle Stag would be on the top of the list of the ones available here in Canada. There really isn't much wrong with Bushmaster or Armalite either.

As soon as I hear from Stag Canada, add me to the owners list.

I assume you're talking about ArmsEast? I emailed them the other day asking for more information and what kind of delivery times to expect... still haven't received a reply.

I'll probably be getting a complete 2R myself.

STAG - Armeast
LMT- Questar
Armalite- Wolverine.

they all have pros and cons , but they are supported by local presence so either way should be fine.

Can you elaborate on some of the cons, I'm a big fan of all three especially the Stag and Armalite rifles based on the number we deal with and all with zero comebacks save for one Armalite three years back with a kinked gas tube which was promptly(less than a week) handled by Wolverine.

(I'll be replying to emails on Monday morning, Busy weekend, sorry).

Happy to hear your guns are working.

Both Armalite and Stag Arms produce fine rifles and have Canadian warranty support, I am pretty sure we both stock almost anything that could break on your rifle.

I think Stag does a great K.I.S.S. M4/M16 type AR-15, but I sell them. :DArmalite offers a broader range of models, which may suit peoples purpose better right out of the box. I have never heard anything but positive stories regarding buying from Wolverine. For lefties, there's only one choice. ;)

Your dad will be happy with either.

...but buy an AR-15.

Regards,
DT

PS: To the poor souls waiting on the A2 buttstocks... They're on the way, promise.

Sorry to read that. If you write and I don't get back, please do me the favour and resend the message after 48hrs. If there's no response, it isn't personal ;), but It shouldn't happen, and I apologize.
Thanks

I own a Stag, top shelf for quality. I actually got mine before Dangertree started selling them (sorry man! You can sell me another one soon) I will be buying another Stag I'm sure. I actually got a stripped lower and built it up myself. went as smooth as glass.

LMT - Mark from Questar is a class act - He sold me my shorty kit which is built on an LMT upper - nice trick with LMT is their uppers are set up for either 6.8 or 5.56 right out of the box. Check your ejection ports! Mark will definately be selling me more firearms in the future.

Armalite - I own an armalite upper (Mated to my stag lower right now) which is a very precise fit with the Stag. I have had a minimal amount of dealings with wolverine, but they seem like nice chaps.

Personally, I would buy either the LMT or the Stag, since both are USDOD suppliers... My humble opinion, anyways. Find out what is in stock and where, call with credit card and PAL in hand, plan your shoot for next weekend and post pics!

I have a Colt, Bushmaster, Rock River and Stag..

Colt has funny pins (the large diameter) the rest are pretty much interchangable.. Mind you the Rock river upper on the Stag lower is a really tight fit....
