I was at a gun show last week and looked at a Stevens 520 pump shot gun for sale. I thought it was super neat and had a price of $150 on it. I didn't buy it cause I didn't know anything about it and both people with me also had never seen or shot one. I did a google search so I'm now familiar with both the 520 and later 620 models and have done some research. Was wondering if any of you out there own one? How do they shoot and how reliable are they? I really liked the look of it and thought maybe I'll come across another in my travels and if I do I may be more prepared to buy it!

Aw man, that's awesome! Wish I'd been there, I'd really like a 520. I really like how they're made.

What kind of barrel did it have? I've no idea which is more common.

The one I looked at had a short barrel on it, kinda similar to a trench gun. What scared me was the fact that the pump didn't move freely some times and it appeared to get stuck. Still kinda wish I bought it though. It was so cool!

When you fire it you must move the slide forward to release it,it locks up into the top of the reciever. It is a JMB design

and is a take down slam fire ,one of the last real sleepers you will ever find at that price. I like the 520's because of the

hump back and rear tang safetys with pistol grip stocks just cut it right off behind the grip and you have a hand grip

It attaches just like win 94.

It comes apart like the burgess shotgun or rifle with sloted groves rather than the oposing threads the 1897 or mod 12 has.

It is really cool you should jump on the next one you find at that price.

I think the one I have is a 520a.
Sometimes it does not want to release the slide after firing.

Take apart the gun down to the trigger mech. There is a spring right on the top of the trigger mech that breaks or bends and causes this problem. The 520's are notorious for breaking that spring. Mine did that, I made a new spring and it worked fine after that.

I have both the 520 and the 620 and they are great guns. Slamfire is very nice and they are all steel guns. I chopped the barrel on my 520, added shell holders and a heatshield to make into my truck gun. The 620 is to nice to chop so its my hunting gun. 150 is a steal and I would have jumped on it for that. They were actually made as trench guns with a heatshield and bayonet lug. Some of them people chopped the lugs and shield off and made them into hunting guns back in the 50's and 60's. The way you can tell they were ex-trench guns is they had 3 small clearance divits on the end of the barrel. Is that what the one you saw had. They came with 20inch barrel.

Thanks for all the info guys! I'm kicking myself for not buying that 520 but I'm sure I'll find another one in my travels some day. If I get one a trench gun project would definitely be a possibility.
