Ive been bitten by the 1911 bug... and i decided i want to break tradition and go a slightly different route and buy a double stack 1911. I went to my local shop and they gave me a killer deal on a STI tactical 5.0 tag said 1899. and he said i could get it for 1475.... when he showed it to me it was still new in the bag I had to cut it open to see the gun. My question is, how reliable are STI guns? How well do they shoot? Are there any draw backs to the double stack design as far as functionality. This is a range gun only.... i have plenty of CCW and HD guns.

Gun looks similar to this.... .45acp no 9mm.

I have 2 STI's One Racegun in 357SIG, and one in .40

Guns are dead nuts reliable. A nice addition is a Cylinder and Slide Warpspeed Trigger kit.

And Ditch the recoilmaster and get a tungsten or SS Guide Rod.

Tight Groups!

Awesome... i will be keeping this gun mostly stock for a while. Is cleaning and maintenance any harder than a standard 1911?

Hi!

I have two open Trubor and one Edge.
STI is awsome.
If you know how to deal with 1911, is practically the same thing.

Beautifully crafted, solid and reliable....love mine, and looking for another...they're hard to beat...oh..and sti support is second to none...enjoy

Look out twoicebergs....while you were typing, some low life swiped most of your pistol.....lol
Ps...love those grips..

I have a Trubor that is dead accurate and problem free. Good for you the gun is south of the 49th, or someone would be running to your local shop to buy it!

FWIW, you may want to do a grip reduction or buy a reduced grip from Extreme (AZ) to make it feel nicer!
