Any Successful Ontario turkey hunts yet?

Shot my first bird ever on the second day 14 pound jake 4 inch beard and 1/4 inch nubblets

sorry about the bad picture

Shot at a Big Ton on saturday and somehow missed him, i guess i shot over pretty freaking embarrasing missing a turkey with a shotgun but it happens i guess. I was mad at my self for the whole weekend. Still out to find another bird

Nice work Ryan!.... I can't believe how nice the band is on that tail... usually jakes don't have one that nice... If you look back at mine in this thread you can see where the band is missing in the middle...

I don't have any meat in the freezer yet, but I consider any hunt where I get to watch anything wild successful in my books. I went out Saturday morning, but couldn't get the only tom I saw to come to my calls, but this hen was a little confused by my decoy. She stuck around for about half an hour, just standing there watching my dekes, and then finally started picking on the hen, before she eventually buggered off.

I went out to a new place yesterday after work and had two toms coming in within a half hour of getting there, but they didn't follow the game plan and went the wrong way, so I couldn't get the shotgun pointed in their direction. Oh well, we'll try again tomorrow.

Finally connected with this nice Jake early this morning.
My first turkey ever.
17lbs with nubs for spurs and 3.5 inch beard.
I am more than happy with it.

Nice bird leadslinger!

I had what I thought was going to be number two hang up at about 60 - 70 yards and get ##### slapped by a hen he was with... He was gobbling like mad and throwing leaves around and she was squawking like mad cutting and just going nuts...

Back at it tommorrow morning...

I finally got a Tom. I got a Jake last year, and decided I was gonna wait for a Tom this year.
This was my fourth morning out, I saw tons of Turkeys every morning, but couldn't get them in close enough.
This morning, rather than go into my blind, I through on the Ghillie suit and set up the opposite side of the field. Sure as ####, at 5:30 am, there were four nice Gobblers and a large number of hens RIGHT IN FRONT OF MY BLIND. AHHHHHH!

I sat tight for 4 hours and they finally made there way acrossed the field towards me. I started calling with by box call at about 9am, and 2 big Toms responded. I played back and fourth for half hour with this guy, it was awesome watching him respond to my calls. Finally, his curiosity got the better of him, and I finally got him.
(I had to take the picks at home in my yard, I was solo in the field)

I love these pics!

I had no idea how cool turkey hunting would be until I tried it!

I need to get a Merriams now. I think their fans are nicer. I'm destined to go for the slam now. :dancingbanana:

Tagged Out!!!
SO I went out this morning, again in WMU59 in the same field as the first bird. It was pouring rain, and I never got to hear a single gobble. I was starting to worry when at 6:15 am, out walked 5 hens and a Tom.
Here is a short vid of the Tom strutting 20 yards from my blind before I got him.

And here he is.

Nice to see that people have been successful.

Now for the flip side...

Been out about 7 or 8 times and apart from the first morning when I shot at a Jake at about 15 yards and missed (doh!) the birds have either stayed at a distance or not bothered to show at all. And they have been very quiet.

So today I am driving to work, and I see Turkeys everywhere; there they are strutting in every other field I pass, mocking me. Then as I am driving along a nice strait back road I see a huge Tom standing on the gravel shoulder, beard dragging on the ground. He looks me in the eye (so maybe I am exaggerating) and stands stock still...until I am about 30 yards away doing 80. Then he decides, ever so casually, to cross the road in front of me. Then, when he's standing in front of the car, decides this is maybe not the best idea and stops, thinks about going back to the shoulder, then changes his mind again turns and goes for it. I instinctively hit the brakes (stupid) with no chance of stopping. There is a bang and the bird bounces to the side, rolls... then gets up and saunters off without a care in the world.

If I can't even kill the suicidal ones with an SUV I may as well give up.

...but I will probably go out again tomorrow.

Got my first bird of 2012. Had this guy and his little brother within range twice last week but couldn't close the deal. Got him today though, at about 25yrds. He's a bit of a pig, weighing 24lbs on my trusty bathroom scale, 10 1/2" beard, 1 1/8 spur on one and 1 3/16 on the other.

Hey Cymru I know how it feels. Have been out twice and only heard gobbles at first light. Finally saw turkeys AS I was taking down decoys and heading home.

Of course when I'm out in the fields in a tractor they are everywhere, as soon as the camo goes on they disappear.

Anyone in eastern Ontario needs a hand I would be happy to come out and help with the calling some time.... I love turkey hunting and don't profess to being an expert but I have been pretty successful..... would be fun to try and hook someone up....

Since your offering your guide services, I assume that you filled that second tag???
