Any suggestions for first 1911 pistol?

So after some serious debate I have decided to get my first pistol after Christmas when range memberships renew. I am looking for some suggestions on a good 1911 platform, .45 Acp preferred but open to 9mm, fairly accurate, and under 1000$. Any and all input would be greatly appreciated!
 
Norinco 1911's finish and trigger pull has come a long way from earlier days.
I got a new one with a thousand rounds of ammo for $599.
Very happy with it, right out of the box. It's about on par with my Spartan.
 
I am in the tuned Norinco camp.They are inexpensive and once tuned are as reliable as the expensive ones. Save the cash spend it on ammo
 
RIA from Sporteque or other dealer or Ruger SR1911.
Tuning from Armco...I've seen his job on Norinco and I experience Gunnar's service first hand.
You'll be better off staying away from this guy.

I also had this dilemma a little while ago. Couldn't decide whether to go with the Ruger SR1911 or Norinco/ammo combo. So I went with both and am very happy with my decision.
 
If it were me, I'd go with Norinco. They're cheap,reliable and can be tuned to run against just about anything at the range.If you discover that the 1911 platform isn't for you, or you want to trade up to a higher dollar example....the resale on them is very strong.
 
I'm running a Taurus and haven't had any major issues with it. Quite nice to have an ambi safety right out of the box, along with a full length guide rod and Heinie Straight 8 sights.
 
I have a Regent (Umarex) 1911 in 45, all that I have done with mine is installed Pachmayr grips, however future plans will include a beavertail grip safety, plus trigger and hammer upgrade mainly because I get bitten by the stock hammer when I shoot. Will try to post a pic.
 
Norc. Paid $350 for a commander length in .45ACP, replaced a few parts like the goofy extended slide release and ambi safety, tuned it up a bit and had a gunsmith fit a new bushing from brownells along with a trigger. It's purty and is as nice to shoot as my old man's 70's Series 70 Colt Gold Cup. I spent less than $800 total and am very happy with the pistol.
 
take a good look at the SAM line from wolverine great quality and reliability for the price
i have 6000+ through mine now i have the 1911A1 military 9MM
 
One thing to keep in mind, if you ever in the future decide you want to shoot in the United States.......... DO NOT buy a Norinco. They don't let them across the border.
