I just purchased a Glock 17 9mm Gen 4 any recommendations for ammunition for the home. And now for the nube question . Is there 9mm ammo that is different sizes ie 9mm, 9x19? So is all 9mm ammo the same ? Don't want to blow up my gun.
Thanks, PS this forum is awesome

Hornady Zommie Max: you never know when brain eating walkers will invade.

And the box looks cool too.

All joking aside; Federals HydraShok Ammo is pricey but worth it.

Yes, 9x19 is 9mm parabellum, or Luger

Start reloading if you're going to shoot much. Unless you're independently wealthy that is!;)

Glock doesn't suggest reloaded ammo, but reloading is cheaper, and wolf ammo is fairly inexpensive commercially reloaded ammo.

There are other 9mm sizes, 9X18 and 9mm tokarev are russian sizes, usually its pretty easy to tell the difference when shopping as those other sizes are well marked. Yours will be marked 9X19, 9mm Nato, or 9mm Parabellum, often just as 9mm as well, but if you're not sure, ask the retailer.

As for the home defense question, as other users are suggesting, firearms are not permitted to be owned in Canada for self defense. There are various premium ammunition sources around that are available in more accurate and higher muzzle velocity loads, often these are designed with a projectile that will expand on contact with a liquid or solid target to prevent over penetration. This is a safety feature to keep your round from possibly penetrating a wall while you are target shooting at the range. Speer Gold Dot is an example, and several other brands have been suggested here. The Hornady Zombie ammo has cool packaging, but good luck getting any lol. Hornady TAP is also supposed to be good.

Remember, when anyone asks, your handgun is owned only for target shooting. If it is ever used in self defense, you can almost guarantee that you will be charged, and quite possibly go to jail for it. Do yourself a favour, a sporting implement such as a baseball bat stored in a location where you can quickly access it when you are in a hurry to attend a sporting event is a weapon of opportunity that is less likely to land you in jail if you ever need to defend yourself. In the end, consult a lawyer before considering self defense options, Canada is not friendly to self defense in most cases.

I use MFS, its cheap and it works great when you are shooting a bunch of rounds, I of course have the more expensive stuff for doing target shooting etc were every round counts.

Can't go wrong with Speer Gold Dot or Winchester Ranger SXT.

I have the former loaded up in my Glock's mag, which is placed beside my Glock at home. I have it out and clean it a lot... And for a long time. Hours daily :)

He said for the home, not the range.

For the Home????? You have a restricted range in your home do you? That's awesome. I use Wolf 9mm JHP TMJ, nice functioning hollow point 9mm ammo. There are several different 9mm's but if you go to a store and ask for 9mm, they will assume you mean 9X19 = 9mm luger = 9mm parabelum = 9mm Nato (although it is rarer to see this now).

err..... ammunition for the home??

Oh yes, he did say it. And we as the sheeple notice it right away. That Liberal brainwashing has gone a long way up the bean stock.

Ah.....yeah? If you mean ammunition for home defense you should probably retain a lawyer expert in firearms law now as you will probably need one.

Yup, premeditated to use his gun for self/home defense which is contrary to the reason he gave when he purchased it (either target shooting or collecting). Yup, that Liberal brainwashing is really engrained into a lot of us, it's going to be a long time to sweat their coma inducing narcotic out of our collective bloodstreams.

While I agree, better to be judged by 12 then carried by 6. I would be more concerned with the safety and lives of my family then to take the time to consider what may happen to me after I have saved their lives. Canada IS becoming more friendly to self defense, but incidents like what happened to young Mr. Martin in Florida set the whole cause back. It is usually the actions of an idiotic few that hurt the masses and erode their freedoms.

I'm not going to blast you on the political aspects. Most know that if their lives (and lives of their families) depended on it, and there was an opportunity to use their "target practice only" handguns, they too would defend themselves. You may want to "practice" with heavier projectile (124gr, 147gr) ammunition with a jacketed hollow point.

Make sure you're buying the right ammunition for your handgun. Don't let anyone ASSUME anything!

Thank you for all the input friends. I would never defend my home from an invasion while cleaning my firearm next to my gun vault with ammunition my Grand father gave to me because he can't shoot anymore. I was surprised how friendly my friends and family became when they found out I received my R.P.A.L. LOL
Cheers everyone and be safe, be aware and be yourself.

Wow, it is amazing at how posts get misread and turned around. The OP never was stated he was looking for home defence ammo. I think around the 3rd or 4th post someone asked him if it was for that. We are in Canada, you can't even defend your home with a baseball bat!

In all fairness to the respondents, many of whom probably remember their RPAL interview....

.....any recommendations for ammunition for the home.

Well, if I was cleaning my guns, and my safes were open, and my house got invaded, I sure would want to be using the right ammo to defend myself, and my sons, should that tragic need arise....
Better to be judged by 12, than.....

Defence of necessity, and all that...

My boys n I often walk up to the local field, to practice some baseball.... I find that if I don't leave the bat near the door, I can never find it when I need it.... ;)

no firearm company suggest reloading ammo, its there way of getting out of any legal action being taken against them for guns blowing up with double charges etc....

Op

Not sure where you are but lebaron has white box Winchester 100 rounds of 115gr on for $24...
I went into the Mississauga store last week to get some and they were out so you may wany to call ahead if you're interested...

Cheers

Does LeBaron in Mississauga sell 9mm ammo? What do they offer as well what would be recommended? Does LeBaron sell pistols? Glock 17 gen 4 mags? I love it that I can ask questions and there's answers, different ones but non the less great info. This community is awesome. Go Canada Go!

I think what you should do is buy a few different rounds (use suggestions here as a guide), so you have some heavier bullets, some hollow points, etc etc and just go out to the range and see which one you like most as they will all have a bit of a different feel.
