Any suggestions on guns?

If you're looking at shooting service pistol, check the regulations - there's a list of approved pistols, also look at what your local PD is carrying. Most police forces have done a reasonable job of making sure that their issue pistol works well for people of all sizes. If you think you'll use it for IPSC and PPC you may want to look at a .40. That being said most indicators point to Glock.

Unless you are planning on shooting only the Duty Pistol course of fire, or the Dist. Auto course of fire, which requires you to use a Semi-Auto pistol, you should look for a quality revolver. If you are going to shoot the normal 1500 PPC course of fire, out to 50 meters, you are going to be at a disadvantage if you try to shoot this match with a Semi-Auto pistol. Just to hard to shoot accurate at this distance with a semi-auto. Almost all people use a revolver for this match. A Smith&Wesson mod. 19 or something simaler would be a good starting point. A S&W mod. 586 or 686 would be better, but they are a little heavier. Most people will eventually aquire a custom built PPC revolver [ heavy barrels, special sight ribs, tuned action etc] if they are serious about shooting PPC. If you plan on shooting Duty Pistol only, with a semi-auto, you have to pick an "approved pistol"from a list of acceptable pistols. For more info go to the "Canadian Police Combat Association" website for a list of approved pistols and courses of fire. The CPCA is basically the governing body for PPC in Canada.
