watch "the best of the west". i think they have a website too. they shoot 7mm mags and 300RUM's over 500 yards on griz, elk, etc on pretty much every show. they have a dvd on how to set up your gun and practice to shoot that far too. they promote the products they use as they sponsor them but would probably be a good start for you. i watched him shoot a griz at 647 yards with a 7mm mag. smoked it both shots and it died real quick so there you have it. i myself can't even see that far. btw, he was using a 20 pwr scope too.
 
Go down to the local video store and watch any sniper movie. Get whatever they use in the movie, because that's about the only place you will find a rifle that will shoot long range with enough energy to knock over a distant moose, with little recoil.
