What is the barrel length on a tanker garand?
Are they considered restricted?
Has anyone ever re-barrelled one with an 18 1/2 inch barrel to make it non-restricted?

I picked up a tanker last month

the barrel is 18 1/2 dead on

I have one non-resticted 308 tanker, (18.5 inch)sorry came that way, though seems to me Dragoon has one in 243, but that was quite a while ago......
The US commercial tankers are generally 18 inch which are restricted here in Canada. A company in New Brunswick...Atlantic Ordinance used to make 18.5 inch barrelled tankers. But they have been closed for a while though. Not much help am I?

Tanker

Used to have a 18 1/2 Barrel Tanker Garand 308 which I sold. I liked it. Always found real Garands too long and unwieldy

<< BTW: I have a Federal Ordanance Tanker barrel that is exactly 18 1/4" in length. >>

I would take the barrel to the gunsmith's shop and have him weld 1/2" of tube on the muzzle. Match up the external diameter and freebore the interior as large as you like. There are any number of guns out there where the rifling stops short of the muzzle.

The Regulations and Criminal Code are silent on rifling, only on overall length.

Where did you find that stock ?

I'm not sure as it has been a couple of years. It is an original Beretta item, very well made with nice walnut exactly like the BM59 folder. It has the lower "leg" that supports the buttplate and is made specifically for a Garand. There is no cutout at the front of the trigger assembly for the BM59 magazine.

I know that Reese was making up folding stocks using Beretta BM59 components for M14/BM59s (not sure if they made any for Garands). The problem with theirs is that they do not have the lower "leg" to support the buttplate so they are not very secure.

A .308 Tanker with folding beretta stock... *drool*

Everyone was building the chopped M305 rigs and I wanted something a little different. The Beretta folder with the tanker seemed a natural combination for a light handy little semi in a major calibre. Bit more traditional than the M305s. I chose 308 as milsurp 7.62 is more plentiful than 30-06 here.

I think it would be a sweet little number....if I ever got off my fat a** and finished it. (one CGN'r has kindly offered to help)

Here is a pic beside my Garand to show how compact it is. Glad you find it of interest.
