Hey guys, not sure if this has been covered before but I was interested in peoples opinions of the Browning X bolts. Looking to buy a new hunting rifle after this season and held a X bolt the other day and it felt really nice, also it is in the price range I want to spend. I looking to get it in 7mm rem mag or 270 wsm. Any thoughts, opinions or suggestions would help, Thanks

I just ordered one! X bolt ss in 7mm-08 cant wait for it to arrive! i went and held a few different brands and found the x bolt to be this nicest! I have posted this on other threads asking about them and everyone that has replied say that they love there x bolts!!!!:D:D

Sure glad to see they have discarded that abortion magazine the A-bolt had. I also understand they have changed the trigger....that cannot be bad, either. Now if they have retained the accuracy of the A-bolt, all will be well. Regards, Eagleye.

And here I was willing to overlook the magazine and trigger of the A-bolt for the outstanding accuracy. Well, on my composite stalker in .300 Win Mag anyway.... :p

NAA.

I'm being tempted by the X-bolt, but I'm not sure I can get over the ugly stock. What was wrong with the A bolt stock? I loved the shape. Browning needs to stop making UGLY firearms.

My go-to rifle is an A-Bolt in .280 Rem (first version) I've had since 1993. I like removeable mags, because I like the ease and convenience of loading and even more, ease of unloading. And I have never once lost a removeable mag, so I don't see that as an issue.
That said, I'm so used to the much-maligned Browning floorplate/mag combo that I actually like it. I've also found my A-Bolt to be more accurate than I can shoot. Except for ONE load, (Rem 150 PSPCL), which shot about 1.5 MOA (5 shots), every factory load or handload shoots to MOA, and I have shot groups half that size and less. I assume the X-Bolt is equally accurate. And it keeps the 60-degree bolt lift, which I love; tons of clearance between hand and scope even wearing winter gloves. And I find tang safeties most instinctive to operate.
I always thought of the A-Bolt as a rather homely stock design, and I find the felt recoil a bit more than the same chambering in, say, a Rem 700. I have heard the X-Bolt is a more comfortable fit for people; I had a couple up to the shoulder and they felt quite nice. I do think the X-Bolt is one of the ugliest rifles to come down the pike in some time, but looks aren't everything. I personally think the Tikka T3 is a homely rifle as well, but it's sold like hotcakes.

I've shot the X-bolt in .243, damn nice gun. Fit and finish is impressive, nice trigger and accuracy seems pretty good too. Might get one for myself but I'm jonesing for an sl-8 right now, ANYONE LISTENING ???

I picked up a used X-Bolt in .300 WSM in Oct. So far I've put 60 rounds through it (Winchester 180 gr power points)with no problems.Groups average 1.5" at 100 yards.I like the idea of the detachable magazine for loading/unloading when I'm moose hunting.Fit and finish on the gun is good.Trigger breaks crisp & clean.Recoil isn't bad even from the bench.I like the gun and will probably make it my main moose gun.
Cheers Bac4

Even though I can intellectually appreciate some of the design features, Browning A-Bolts and X-Bolts leave me cold. No appeal whatsoever.

Have owned an X-Bolt stainless stalker since Nov.08 in .325wsm and just love it. Every feature about it is miles ahead of the older A-Bolts (I have 2) and the fit and finish is much nicer than even the Sako's I have had in the past. Recoil is light (that could be the 325 though just in the way the powder burns). Overall I love it and it will be one that will stay in the gun cabinet for sometime!!!

I have an A-Bolt stainless stalker 7mm rem mag with boss. It's ugly, muzzle heavy, and makes many enemies at the range with it's outrageous noise. But it's a tack driver. And I love shooting it.

I like what they did with the X-Bolt, especially the white gold. It looks like they addressed all the gripes that made people dislike/hate the A-Bolt.

lol i find the Extremely not accurate very funny like what kind of groups are you getting???? and as for the trigger there are every bit as good as any other stock rifle and the bolt is better then many others and as for bad looks it dosnt look any worse then a tikka, remington or savage!!
