I purchased a Springfield Armoury Tactical XD40 awhile back and would like to expand my collection. Does anyone have any thoughts on a good .40 cal semi auto ??? I was thinking of maybe Glock or Sig, but am open to suggestions from seasoned shooters.

My next handgun is going to be a Glock 23 40S&W with an extended legal length barrel and an Advantage Arms, extended length barrel, 22LR conversion kit with 2 extra mags for cheap practice.

I had a Glock G35 and man that pistol was fun to shoot and for an out of the box gun was really accurate.
I just couldn,t get used to the grip of it.
The trigger was okay, but not great.
I liked the trigger on the Glock ,better than an XD.
I sold the Glock and got an STI Trojan in .40.
I've found a pistol in .40 that suits me really fine.
Recoil is very tame.
Nice sights(adjustable),with a good sight picture.
Came with a 3.5lb trigger which I had lightened to a 2.5lb trigger with no replacement of parts.
A couple of weeks ago,P&D Enterprises had one in exc. cond. for $995.
The pistol is accurate and well built.
I wouldn,t hesitate in recommending a Trojan in .40.
Mine is blued, but now I see they're offering it in stainless with a Caspian style adjustable sight.

i have a para ordnance .40 cal.

shoots great and looks great but its my first firearm so i have no other gun to compare too.

and customer service is great.

The P16 is a nice gun...I'd consider getting one...

Glock 22 (then get the Glock 31 barrel afterwards - 2 guns in one)

I also heard that some SIG models are coming with the option of extra barrel (.40S&W + .357SIG)

Can't go wrong with any of the units mentioned.
The STI Trojan is an outstanding pistol.. classic strengths and weakness of the
1911 system... uniform, crisp trigger.. single stack... classic!
The Sig, particularly in stainless, is a pussycat, and there are extra barrels
floating around in 357 Sig... a really cool calibre.. milder recoil than 40S&W
with 357 Mag punch.. what's not to like! Oh hell, get both, as well as a G35!

I would recommend HK USP. While guns like Beretta 96, SIG P226 and Glock 22 are all scaled up versions of 9mm guns, the USP was originally designed as a .40.
