heading up to my dad's huntcamp for a work weekend. I was wondering if taking the turkey gear along would be a good idea or if they have even reached that far. It's somewhere between Huntsville and Northbay, no major towns or villages nearby.

I recently returned from algonquin Park, and that would be just east of Huntsville. I saw a huge Tom standing on the side of Hwy 60 between Hwy 35 and the park.
So they are that far north. Will you see any? That's another question. I don't think they are in large numbers.

Yes, there are turkeys. But an open season is another question. WMUs 49 and 50 (most of the area between huntsville and north bay) have no open season for turkeys.
My grandparents in 50 had a flock of 16 reside on their property all winter. I live and work in Muskoka and see turkeys almost daily in my travels between Bracebridge, north bay and parry sound.

Few and far between here in the Bay, to date I have seen one in Powassan, a hen. Have seen a couple around huntsville though and a friend of mine was across hwy 60 the other day, she said she used to have to watch close for moose, now it's turkeys on the road she worries about, LOL!:)

There are definitely a few pockets of them up here. 1st seen about 4-5 years ago.

Recently a tom and a a couple of hens having been hanging around the range!

They seem to be quite stupid about cars(bird brains i guess) and i'm sure they would get shy (and scarce) quick if there was a hunt around here.

It could be awhile before we get a hunt in 50, 49 or 47. However i think there is a hunt in 48, the east side of highway 11 from South River to North Bay. There is a lot of crown land there that may hide a few turkles, but you didnt hear that from me...

that unit wraps around the top of the park and over to the ottawa valley, and i suspect there has been turkey hunting there for awhile.
