So I had a short day at work and somehow ended up in WSS looking at guns. Anyways, I was playing with a Versa Max Sportsman and really diggin it. It fit me well and pointed great, plus that whole 7 rds in a semi shotgun thing makes me all warm and fuzzy. Any of you nuts got one? Anyone cut one down to 18 1/2"? What do you guys think of them?

Had the tactical model myself (22") excellent gun, never a problem or failure. Fed every kind of ammo. Excellent!

lol, I have a sportsman and it takes 3 + 1, not 7 rounds. Last I checked 7 rounds in a semi other than a 22 makes it prohib....

Nope, 5 rds of 3 1/2" = 7 rds of 2 3/4". The RCMPs position is semi auto shotgun mag capacity applies to the largest shell the shotgun is chambered for. Legal for blasting and hunting small game in AB. Birds is 2 in the mag, big game is 5. In AB of course, other provinces/territories may vary.

I love mine. I have the 28" synthetic model (not sportsman) and over a couple thousand target and hunting loads it continues to go on without any sign of failure. The recoil reducing stock design makes it very comfortable to shoot all day long, and it's a very simple gun to take down and clean compared to other designs.

I recently bought a VM sportsman. Mostly as a hunting gun, but naturally I had to order some Nordic goodies including an extension for fun. Very happy with it so far, feels great and I love the price point. Being familiar with Benelli's, the controls are natural. So far it's handled everything from 1oz target loads to 3.5" buck without a single hiccup. I'd love to find a 22" barrel though!

Well it could but the I.D. of the bore is too large for standard chokes like remchokes and nobody has a probore reamer which may not even work. You could cut it down but it may shoot like a blunderbuss lol. Plus you aren't supposed to shoot slugs in some back bored shotguns depending on how overbore it is. Pretty much killed my dream but its still a cool shotgun when used as Remington intended he he. For my needs though the dream is dead. Honestly after researching them for two days I had no idea they were back bored until SJR said so.

Why couldn't a back bored barrel be cut down ?

I have a VM Tactical and love it.Havent had a problem.shoots everything and well.Did afew mods and its a great gauge to play with for steel and clays.
