Any way to keep my USP 45 from denting the brass?

Took my new USP 45 out to the range today and I noticed that a large portion of the brass casings have a small dent. (A google search told me that this is quite common with these pistols.)

I would like to reload in the future and I assume that these dented shell casings may cause problems. Is there any way to avoid this?

Thanks in advance.

Where's the dent, in the middle of the case or at the case mouth? Maybe post a pic if you can. Either way they should be fine to reload.

they will iron out in the sizing die. You could try playing with recoil springs, but your likely going to trade function for pretty brass if you do. You could look to see if anyone makes an extended ejector for it. Or just live with it. Many 1911's crimp brass as well, it all reloads fine.

I've seen some articles where some gunsmiths have machined the slide with a radiused cutout at the back of the port to reduce the dents.
Might be worth googling if you are willing to machine the slide.

Thanks for the replies, fellas. My only concern is not being able to reload the dented cases. If you guys think it won't be a problem, then it's all good. :)

Love this gun.

Like Rickster66 said, that is caused by the slide not being radiused out. Very easy to cure. Take a look at a Kimber slide as an example at the ejection port. That small bevel on the outside which you can file yourself stops the brass from being dented like in your picture. Did mine years ago on an old Colt with a Dremel tool. Makes it all go away.

Get that on some rounds, maybe 3 or 4 per 50 rounds, from my Kimber, and not that deep. I'd agree work the port a little at a time and try it until it's gone or only a few look like that. I think your always going to get a few.
