Any word on the GSG mp40 coming into canada?

I had heard a while ago about GSG releasing a 9mm version of the MP40 as well and hope that someday we can have it here. I have their STG 44 and would really like a MP40!

Someone did an access to information for what was on the queue for 2014 and prior might shed some insight as to what is left to classify.

I had read it before and remember that the Type 81 and ARX-100/160/160-22 were on that list. I've submitted for a copy of that list "at the governments convenience".

Arx160 is prohib. Lab says it is easily converted to full auto. The 224 version. Not the 22lr versions. 22lr is either R or NR on overall length.

I know but both were just recently classified which goes to say if they have some semblance of an ordered list the GSG MP40/22 should be somewhere near the top by now depending on when it was submitted. The 9mm version however is newer IIRC so its probably not on that old list.

It isn't one after the other. Examinations happen over time with research moving from one gun to another and back anf forth. The lab may ask for additional info from a dealer, importer or manufacturer and the put a gun on hold while waiting for a reply. While that gun is on hold, other guns are looked at. If they did them in order exclusively it would take even longer.

Just because two guns were submitted at the same time, doesn't mean they will get their classifications determined together or near the other.

^ as a scientist it is my opinion that they devalue the word 'lab'. more like a day care for rcmp that are too 'slow' for the field

Wondering if anyone's heard any news on the GSG mp-40 22lr? I tried contacting blueline, the GSG dealer, but haven't had any response. I know this rifle was submitted around the same time as the STG44 22lr.

If I remember many years back, wasn't there actually a 9mm MP40 clone brought to Canada by MARSTAR or something? Along with an STG44 replica? This has to be probably 10-15 years ago at least...but I remember it being all the hype back then.

Not sure I'd get to excited about this one guys.......

Quote from a less than stellar range report at truthaboutguns

"In the final analysis, the GSG MP40 reminds of an ex-girlfriend (name withheld by request); it’s unreliable and temperamental. You can’t feed it when you want to. You never know if she’s going to disappear into the bathroom and puke her guts out. But she is attractive and you want to love her.

Truth be told, I would’ve been OK with all the pistol’s little “quirks” if the gun had run reliably. Or somewhat reliably. Or, let’s face it, at all. In fact, it only does do one thing well: attract attention. Even for a range toy, that’s not enough."

Ok, but that's for the 9mm version. I was referring to the 22lr verion which has gotten good reviews in US since about 2014. Plus a lot have commented on how it looks so authentic compared to the real thing. That plus the fact that 22lr would be so cheap to fire makes it a huge plus for me.

there was two different 9mm versions approved, and then reclassified to prohibited because they were easily converted with original full auto parts. the BD-38 and the other one i cant remember the name/numbers of.

Fair enough, although GSG .22's are hardly paragons of reliability. My STG-44 was "OK" in that regard but hardly a Browning Buck Mark. ;)

I do agree that one of these would be tempting for looks alone as a range toy.

Last I talked to blue line, was they were in the process with GSG in making a Canadian compliant version, similar to the UK GSG MP40-22 which has a 12 inch barrel instead of the original 10 inch or american 16 inch with faux suppressor. I honestly don't think .22LR semi auto technology is that hard to make a semi only version, and it shouldn't be rocket science to classify one.

Blue line should have just gotten the american version classified initially and brought in a special Canadian one.

Yes that's them.

Cool guns!
