Anybody else got a VZ-specific chest rig?

I would be leery of having all of my mags open topped, especially with the feedlips up. If you take a spill, vehicle rolls, etc you can lose mags or get them fouled. I always run a first reload open topped but the remainder with flaps.

While running mags with the bullets up makes for faster reloads on the rock-in style mags like VZs or AKs, the top round will work it's way off the mag over the course of the day. I tried this on some open topped Paraclete pouches until I got tired of moving the top round back into it's place and eventually just flipped my mags upside down.

For range use though it can save time on reloads having bullets up, depending on the style of pouch.

I can hang my vest upside down and shake it and the mags stay retained with only the horizontal retainment. It seems to be working, for me anyways.
It's a familiar rig for me and muscle memory is important.

As for the splash/crash retainment, luckily it's not something I have to worry about anymore, and it's nice to be able to think like a civvi and take the top bungees off now.

... I wouldn't jump with this rig, but It fits the bill for my current station in life.

Here is a pic of mine. So far is been great. Originally it was st up for 7 mags, but the 5 mag set up is way better now.

Paraclete SOHPC
Emdom USA AK pouches
HSGI Taco shingle (very secure)
HSGI Blow Out Kit
HSGI Admin pouch
5.11 pistol mag pouch
5.11 dump pouch

How tight/loose is the fit with the Emdom pouches?

The Emdom pouches are a little tight as they are designed for AK mags. The work better bullet side down. They are loosening slightly and the HSGI Taco is better than I expected. Bonus is that these pouches will take AR mags well.

my rig

got this in a couple weeks ago... figured I'd post it like I said I would.

My SPLAV PIONEER M23 chest rig

fits 8 mags pretty snug... other pockets are for grenades and flares. the flare pouches fit my glock 17 mags quite nicely... not in the most convenient of places, but w/e. I plan on getting a belt, belt holster, drop pouch and auxiliary mag pouches. Perhaps a butt-pack and canteen too. There is a M23 specific belt/butt-pack upgrade designed for Durganov SVD operators... not sure where to find it yet. It is also capable of running a forward armour plate, which I wont have(thanks nanny province BC!) It is comfortable and solid... no problem adjusting it (I'm 6'7" and 255)
