anybody else using blazers?

As you know, Blazer have been the best in any rifle I have tried them in. The great amount of shooters here all reporting how well Blazers shoot, sort of shoots holes in the theory about "What your rifle likes."
As far as I'm concerned, good rifles like good ammunition, period. I have carefully tested several brands of common, lower priced 22 ammunition, in quite a few accurate, well tuned 22 rifles, and every test comes out the same. In other words, one rifle is a mirror image of the next. CCI Blazer is always best, with another couple competing for next spot and the ammo that shoots worst in one of my rifles, shoots worst in all of them.
 
Every factory ruger barrel Ive owned has seen thousands of rounds of Blazer. I wrecked a match barrel with them. Keep an eye on lead buildup "just in case". If excessive leading does not occur then they usually shoot amazingly well. Shot a couple cloverleafs under 1/2" out of my FV-SR though some groups had flyers. Cheap ammo is cheap ammo so ymmv. Very reliable though, Ive had maybe 1 or 2 duds in the past 10,000 rds. The GSG 1911's seems to lead up really bad with Blazer, I just keep them away from match barrels and enjoy the dirt cheapness in sporting .22s.
 
No issues with leading or anything else in my Buckmark and SR22, pretty much all I use now. CanAm sometimes has them in stock and if you buy 5 they ship free.
 
Hey all,
Had my 10/22 w/SR22 barrel out yesterday. Put 500 rounds of Blazer down the pipe and had NO issues what so ever. From a lasered 111m we were able to hit a 4x4 piece of spring steel with boring regularity. Decent price, very good accuracy, and easy to find. I now need to find out where I can get a crate. Oh yeah, this was the 500 round, 10 boxes of 50 carton.

I just finished my first box of ammo ever (525 Blazer bulk box) so take my opinion for what it's worth :p

I'm no expert in guns, but is 525 rounds enough to gunk up a gun to the point of not firing? I listened to someone at a store who said "All you need to do is use a barrel snake every time! Clean it once a year thoroughly!" and never cleaned anything but the bore between shoots.

When I was down to the last 100 rounds I actually had a misfire, and every time I racked the bolt back to make the gun safe the first pull was very tough and sticky. Is that the Blazer's fault or the fault of my cleaning ignorance?

The rounds at the bottom of the box consistently had the same white/grey wax mentioned by Steeltownguy. I only noticed it after loading the mag a couple times, it rubbed off the heads of the bullets onto the mag where it slides in. Is this a really bad thing for my gun or is it ok?

I found the wax to be problematic as well. The last time I took my 597 out. I shot 3 nasty groups with the Blazer wax coated bulk back. then switched to Stingers. My first group was not that great either, then the next tightened up significantly, then all the rest were the jagged whole with the odd flyer.

I suspect the wax was coating the barrel and it took 5~10 rounds to clean it out.

My found the Federal bulk 525 pack stuff groupd a lot better in my 597, but I usually get the best groups with Stingers.

I tried Blazers in my Buckmark as well, and found I was getting a FTFire every ~20 rounds. Always a decent strike from the firing pin, just no boom. I've only had one that didn't fire on the second try though.

My theory is, they don't work as well in guns with a blade style firing pin. Maybe the primer is loaded more towards the center of the cartridge in these things? :confused:

Take that with a grain of salt though, I'm basing this on a sample size of 2. LOL.:redface::p
 
At the last gun show in Kamloops they were selling bricks of CCI Blazer for $20 and no tax.
They are my favourite cartridge also, as I proved in several different rifles.
Then, I got a scope on my 1951 Brno Model 1 rifle, and while Blazer are still probably the best, some others that were not too good, tightened right up to 1 MOA. American Eagle, both 36 grain HP and round nose 40 grain, plus Federal Lightning, were all about a toss up.

What make/model rifle are you using? Cooey/Lakefield/Savage 64's can get pretty gunky within 500rds. Others possibly too... The 64 seems to be enigmatic in the semi .22 world with how often it must be cleaned to function well.

I do find if a semi is misbehaving while being used, and I suspect being dirty is the culprit A thorough spray/flush of brake cleaner through the action can make it run happily unti I get home.
 
That's what I use as well in my .22's. I tend to get very small groups when paired with my Marlin 39A, Browning 52, and Browning International Medalist. It worked extremely well in my former Anschutz 1415-1416.

I tend to stock up on that particular brand, but we tend to get totally shafted on price (at nearly $30 per brick at Canadian Tire). :(

I'm using a 10/22. It just seemed odd to me that one box was enough to cause my gun to jam once, especially after hearing multiple people say you didn't need to do a thorough cleaning very often.
 
Yep use them a lot here. The Blazers and the American Eagle 40gr are my go to rounds in all my old .22s. Mossberg 44s and 144s love them. My Ruger 10/22 with a Green Mountain barrel tends to be ok with them but prefers the Amer. Eagle more or the Federal Automatch.

Re-read this thread, some others have commented between the differences of a pack of 10X50 rounds vs the bulk 525... apparently the second is far "gunkier"
