Anybody got a Marlin XT-22?

This has to be my fav bolt action 22lr in my safe right now! I love the damn thing. Soo accurate...feels good. This is off a bi pod at 50yards with winchester commemorative ammo with a 4-16X44 scope. On full magnification

Good to hear lots of positive feedback on the Marlin XT-22, I have a Remington 597 but do want to get myself a bolt action 22 and see whats more accurate to me.

So far I can in most cases with my 597 beat my friend who has a Savage MkII so I think this will be my next target, the price is right and I hear great reviews, do they sell them anymore with a wooden stock or was that strictly the 795?

You can get wood stock on the xt. Have a look at the Marlin site - it will give you an idea of what they offer (there are a lot of variations)

Wow, thats with the sporter barrel? I'm impressed.

yup no #### either man...I'll take a pic and post it later...i love it...i guess that micro-groove rifling makes a realy diff bcuz im not that good of a shot! ahha...

even when shooting fast (as fast as a bolt can go) with a 30 rnd string this sporter barrel doesnt heat up at all...its awesome...I guess bcuz the stock marlin barrels are thick to begin with. Thicker than any other stock barrels i have seen in another other manufacture

I just bought a new XT-22TSR. After cleaning the factory grease for the bore it took a box of ammo to settle down, and now with Winchester Subsonic I am very pleased with its repeatable performance. It feeds and ejects positively.
Going into this I was concerned based of the horror stories of what Marlington had done to the line of .22 rifles- but mine at this point is as good as the older 925 series but with a better trigger.

Well first off, I am torn between a XT-22 and a CZ-455, obviously the price is a large factor one being a lot more than the other.

Any advice there ?

Second, if I do pick up an XT-22 do I go tube fed or magazine? I have heard good and bad about tube fed guns.

Any advice at all with either of these questions is greatly appreciated.

If accuracy and cost are your two biggest deciding factors you can't go wrong with the marlin. If you can afford it, the CZ will give you the same accuracy or better with a more appealing fit and finish. The CZ has a much stronger action and resembles a full size rifle with the bolt handle at the rear of the bolt instead of halfway like marlins and savages. The wood is usually much nicer than what you will get on a marlin also, real walnut as opposed to "American hardwood".

The marlins are great guns though. I had a 925 for a few years and it was really accurate and fun to shoot! I also have owned several tube fed marlins and do prefer them to the box mag guns. There was certainly no loss in the accuracy department.

Its not really price I can afford either but there seems to be a big jump in price, I mean the CZ 455 is as much as a Savage Axis XP, and some other hunting rifles.

I am really only looking for target shooting, if I can find my way into it maybe rimfire competition shooting if I can find places around here.

Do I really get $250 worth of a better gun going with the CZ-455 ? Or are the differences so slight (referring mainly to performance) that it really wouldn't matter.

I know the stock will be better the action will be smoother..the overall pieces of the gun will be better machined, but this is a newbie asking..does all of that make a difference in Accuracy, Fun Factor..etc..

Ok so Now I have to ask....

I have a remington 597 I never use (it's actually on the EE right now)

A Savage MKII I got when I was 12 - deadly accurate, but I never use it.

A savage 4C pre WWII given to me by my brother in law I never use

A Marlin little buckaroo I got when I was 8 I never use

and a Marlin 795 that is my go to .22 and it my faveorite gun in my safe, Rimfire or centerfire.

My question? Will The XT-22 replace the 795 as my faveorite? After all these raving reviews you guys have made me want one. Will I regreat buying it or will it replace the 795 in my heart?

Steeltownguy, the CZ is just nicer that's all. Performance wise they're about equal I would say based on the reviews in this thread. Also on par with the Savage mark II's. The extra $250 gets you a nicer rifle that is appreciated by aficionados who are anal about the care and attention to detail that goes into a well built gun. The marlins are clearly made with lesser grade materials, looser tolerances, and believe me when I say, the quality control is often reflected in the price. It is not uncommon to find brand new examples of any marlin with canted sights, bad crowns, poorly inletted stocks and barrel channels. Not to say most... Because most marlins are great, I love them for what they are and have owned many over the years, but we are comparing to a CZ. Rarely do you see a CZ with a factory defect.

I get this from a buddy of mine.
He just can't seem to get past the $5-6-$700 for
a well made rimfire.
I bought a Browning T-Bolt new over the CZ.
Then I bought the CZ 452 and the T-Bolt is in the EE.
If I could get the trigger in the T-Bolt light as the CZ, I
am almost convinced it will shoot just as good or better
that the CZ.
I have improved it a bit, but if she doesn't sell, I have another
card up my sleeve for that sticky trigger.

What I can't understand with folks on here and elsewhere is the
little coin they wish to spend on a rifle they shoot the most ammo
out of.
Crap ye'all, go treat yerself to a nice-high quality rimfire and good
have some serious fun.
Looky at that Clayneb feller.
The coin he tossed at his little Scout (I believe).
What a hoot watching the little chit pounding targets at 500 yards.
Never would of believed it if he hadn't posted the video.
Nothing termediously accurate, but hey, the twang off the target is
good enough for me.
Spend some coin and relax and enjoy.
Cheers all.

I am not against spending the money, I am considering the CZ-455 because I believe that you should invest money in the guns you will likely be shooting the most, It does make sense what other posters have said that the QC suffers, you'll get small defects..I had the same problem with my Remington 597, there is a tiny notch in the stock just under the Action when I had bought it brand new. I didn't freak I figured it will be the first of many because that gun will see a lot of abuse as I am still learning.

As it stands now I would like to sport shoot if I can find competitions here but all I find are pistols comps, I have checked the CSSA and what not but I will ask on the competition boards for info there. I just want a bolt action rifle that is accurate, dependable, fun, and versitile.

So far I have seen the Savage MkII, the Marlin XT-22. the CZ-452 / 455

I am not afraid of spending money, just like to weigh my options and find that this forum and its users are a wealth of knowledge and opinion and it really helps me.
