Anybody have IBI barrel reviews ?

Exactly, that posting was over a year ago and you are still spewing the same old sh*t! You just don't "get' it that people resent your crap dissing a fine Canadian company!!

He hasn't said anything in a year so I think his point is valid. I doubt IBI is hurting from his comments, their reputation is solid.

I haven't said anything negative about IBI in over a year.

It seems like they've rectified their initial issues, and I wish them the best of luck. I have nothing against IBI, I hope they continue to be successful and provide the Canadian market with good barrels.

I've said as much in this thread and others throughout the past year. I have no interest in rehashing old issues as it looks like we are past that, so why are you guys continuing to bring this up?

I am or was running one of there AR barrels in my SPR and it is by far the best AR match barrel I have used..

I have no info to add on a barrel for a bolt gun yet but I think a carbon is in the future for a hunting rig

What would be a good length for an IBI 223 build? 22”? 24”? 26”? Twist 1:7?

It depends…. lol

If you are going down to a 20” barrel, I would recommend 1:7 if you want to shoot 77+ projectiles.

If you’re gunna shoot 50’s, you can do a 1:12 at 24”

You can lengthen the twist if you’re pushing the bullets faster. Tighten up the twist if you’re going with a shorter tube… there’s a lot of variables to consider.

I went 26” 1:8 for my 223AI. It’s not designed to be carried around in a hunting scenario… It shoots Berger 80’s quite well. I prefer 69 & 77 SMKs, mostly due to availability and current inventory. It has no trouble hitting a 1/3 IPSC plate at 1000y with the 69 or 77 SMKs…. When I don’t miscalculate the wind…. I have not tried 90’s in it, I expect a 7 twist would be required to stabilize 90’s in a 26” barrel.

For a 20-22” hunting rifle, I would go 1:9 and plan to shoot 69’s or lighter.

My $.02

So I've got to ask... no trouble hitting a 1/3 IPSC at 100 yards with your .223 AI? I'm not trying to be a skeptic but by my math, a 1/3 IPSC (6" wide) is roughly 0.2 mils wide at 1000 yards. Now I shoot a ton of .223 (not Ackleyed, mind you) and my 75gr BTHP load (for all intents and purposes the same as a 77 SMK) going 2950ish needs 0.4 mils/1mph of wind at 1000 yards and my 75 ELDM load (same speed) needs 0.25. An Ackley gets you what, 100fps extra? Based on that (and given a 1/2 moa capable gun), every time the wind shifts 0.5mph, 1/2 your rounds(or more) would be off target. Just saying...

I’m at 3180 with 77’s, but ya…. Wind calls are tough… There are 12 people who can bear witness, (3 who I “know” are on CGN), plus the guys from Call Sign 66 who have witnessed me making hits at 1050y on a 1/3 IPSC with the 223AI.

I have taken my 243 to 1500, I’ve made hits at 1050 with a Norinco M14, and regularity shoot an iron sighted M1A and Lee Enfield to 800y.

And I’m not a very good shot IMHO….

Cheers!

Oh I wasn't disputing your ability to make hits at those distances, was just kinda skeptical of you "having no problem" making hits on that size target at that distance, if that makes sense? I guess people can read that differently. I literally have an entire data book with over a year's worth of data from shooting a 3 rd drill at 830 yards on a 2/3 IPSC at 830 with a .308 at every different time of day in every different kind of weather (this is in complex mountainous terrain) and I'd call that a "low probability first round shot" (and my data backs that up).

I've shot 6 and 6.5 creeds to 1600 yards, made hits ( on the clock in a match) at 1500 with a .308, taken my .223 and a Norc M14 to 830 but those are all low probability shots, especially in anything but the most consistent conditions, imo.

IBI Barrels?

Don’t buy ONE…..

Buy TWO of them!

I bought a 6.5 barrel from them in a Remmy Varmint contour…. Shot on par with my factory AI (likely Bartlein) .308 barrel… always under an inch and stupid accurate. More accurate than my heartbeats allow me to shoot things.

I directed my clients at my PR matches to look into IBI upgrades and lately they have kicked my butt at a recent ORA PR match at Milcun 03 July 2021. That’s a good thing

I like them.

They tend to be a bit harder than other barrels, but not enough to cause any issues.

Just make sure your smith is up to the task of properly installing a barrel and has sharp reamers, or they're going to get "chatter"

I’ve chambered one for a friend that shoots awesome and I have one sitting in the back room to try for myself, when I get time.
One thing I will say is they sure support the local shoots and deserve a big shout out for that.
I will definitely be buying more in the future and I’m sure I won’t be disappointed.
The turnaround time is also great.

I have 2 now. 6.5 Grendel and 6.5 PRC

These are both hunting rifles, working up 0.5-0.7 MOA loads for them with Barnes TTSX bullets was easy.

Canadian company, accurate barrels....I don't see myself buying barrels from anyone else for the foreseeable future.

Just received and test fired my 9mm barrel from IBI. The quality of the barrel is top notch. However, I waited 8 weeks for the barrel. So anticipate some delays.
