I donno if it's just my luck but I set up my bait on buddy's farm..
We have Sean bears all summer I mean 10+ at a time .
I set it up and going on 3 weeks and it's like they are all just gone...

There's 3 different 45gallon drums at diffrent spots one has all kinda stuff in it. Household foods and sweets
Other 2 have a lot of grain and a lot of old deep fryer oil...

I know there a lot of Barrie's in my area this year but. ...
How's everyone's luck?

Mine have been good so far. Still hitting it everyday. I'm around Burks falls area.

Cherry trees dropping berries yet? I can't see acorns yet but they are usually the biggest reason bear baits go cold.....

Possible anyone else is baiting close to you? Maybe they are pulling bears from your bait. If they have a good hook up for bakery supplies, Bears will go for the sweets.

any of the local farmers growing corn close to you. if there is the bears are most likely in the corn. try spraying a mixture of anise(licorice) and liquid smoke around your sites. both of these items can be bought at most grocery stores. dump it in a small spray bottle(can be bought at most dollar stores) mix it with water. spray it as high up into the trees as you can. spray the underside of the limbs/leaves so the rain does not wash it off. the smell should travel for miles on the wind bringing the bears.

My baits are doing good. Never put any cameras on them until today as time has been an issue with me this year. Acorns started dropping 2 weeks ago and the berry crops don't seem to be very large this year. Could be a good season.

Yes, and apparently I am the bait. According to my trail cam, a bunch of them have started frequenting my hunt cabin. I am predicting a very easy, through the window score this coming session. :)

They wrecked about 4 acres of by buddy's corn last year...
I try end walking in the corn but can't see any spots( hard to cover it all tho )!

There is no other bait site that I can find haha

Baiting only starts tomorrow here in Quebec, going with a mix of apples (free stuff, the best kind of stuff), dog food and table syrup which had a really good sale on them... We'll see how she goes!

I can sympathize with you, as I had a nice boar coming in twice a day for about a month to corn and fryer oil. Come opening day Aug 15th he came in just at dark. I declined the shot thought I would wait until the next day when he came in good light. He hasn't been back since. No body else is hunting the area so I am reasonably sure he is not in someone else's freezer. He hasn't gone nocturnal on me as the bait hasn't been touched. Maybe he found himself a girlfriend. I don't have much experience baiting bears, and have no idea how big there territories are. It was interesting month watching him come into the bait and his behaviours while there.

not very often a bait with that many bears on it goes untouched for long...

Believe it or not there are folks out there that will spray your bait with bug dope or soapy water and set up near by.

Not saying that's the case here, but the ONLY time I ever had an active bait go dead, that was the case.

Any "new" hunters in the area?

...actually sounds rather appetizing! (...where's your bait? :) )

...going good here, but then again i sweeten oats with honey cappings from my hives (needs to be in a barrel by law)...just waiting...i'd rather take something in october unless it's really the right bear...

I don't think anyone would have messed with it cause I would have caught it on the camera...
I finally had one walk by the barrel but never touched it...
Smelt it and went on his way...
They really must not be hungry...
I donno
Time will tell..

Truck driver had one run in front of the truck for miles at 4 this morning. He said it just wouldn't turn off the stupid road. Neighbour is baiting a bear right now.He has a sugar bush and using crummy syrup and grain.
