Anybody here fondled a new win 94?

What price do these new 94's go for?

P&D has the 94 Sporter listed at $1250 and the 94 Short listed at $1075, which is in the ballpark with other listings I've found; Epp's had them for a
little less. I favour the 94 Short, I only wish it came with checkering on the butt and fore stock, then I'd have to find a way to improve the iron sights.
Other then that, I like it very, very much.:)

I bought the 1886 short rifle and it functions flawlessly. It's not quite as smooth as my Browning 1886 Saddle Ring Carbine but that's only because the Winnie is brand new and the Browning is 20 years old. The wood finish on the Browning seems quite a bit nicer. The finish on the wood on the Winnie seems like it could use a few more coats of oil but I'm no expert. Wood to metal fit on the Winchester and Browning is good and I don't mind the safety. They say in the owner's manual that whether the hammer is cocked or not, the safety must always be on until you're ready to shoot so I've practiced both cocking and disengaging the safety. If I were hunting out of a treestand, I would keep it cocked with the safety on but when I'm walking through the bush, I don't want the hammer back because I'm concerned about debris falling between the hammer and the firing pin. That being said, I love both rifles and can't part with either.

I love a lever more than most, but I ain't dropping $1300 on a 30-30. Especially one that isn't 100years old in mint shape.

+1... and there's plenty of very serviceable Pre-64's '94's around for $300 - $500.

From back when Winchesters were real Winchesters.... ;)

Only my .02, of course. :D

NAA.

I haven't seen any 92's or 94's yet but a couple days ago I havd the chance to fondle a 1886. The fit and finish was nice wood to metal good. The action was smooth with the exception of when it was locking up but that can be bacause it is new and hasn't seen any rounds yet. A quick polish could fix that. I was going to start a thread and ask about these... The whole $1200-$1300 kinda threw me off though.

We've been selling the Japanese made winchesters in the 92's and 1886's. They are far superior in fit / finish and function than other winchesters made in the last decade or three :)
I have a 92 in 44/40 and love it. The price does take a bit of getting used to though.
It was always a mystery to me how winchester tuended out M70's with relatively few parts for anout $1000 for years and a M94 with LOTS of parts fot about half the price. Maybe the new prices are just reflections of the real cost to produce...
