I'm on my fifth or sixth . They're great old rifles , but they do have some quirks . The best way to keep your fingers intact is to get in the habit of putting the rifle on safe whenever you intend to put your fingers in harms way . Also , as others have pointed out , do some research regarding what loads can be used safely in your rifle . Just like the M1 Garand , these rifles were developed with powders used in the 1940's . Using some modern propellants in them can lead to instant self disassembly , not good . With a bit of fore thought , they are a very accurate , reliable , and more importantly , fun rifle to shoot .
