I used to hate the idea, I guess most of the time they ended up being kinda junk. I actually didn't mind the way the SL8/G36 had it's bipod, so I figured I'd try and see what I could do; turns out a Geissele MK8 handguard is juuust about right:

It's definitely grown on me, can't even tell it's there until you need it! :d And I can't believe how much lighter the MK8 handguard is, even with the bipod it's about the same weight as my old diamondhead handguard. Way better built, there is no contest!

There's about 1/8th inch of clearance between the barrel and the bipod, you can't flex the handguard to get even close, but I'll have to shoot it to see what the barrel whip is like. I can take at least 1mm of material off the steel of the bipod cant plate if I need it.

Thanks guys! I guess I have a way with obscure thread titles :p

Pretty cool. Is it mounted on the barrel? Sweet Nill grips! Where'd you pick up those bad boys from?!

It's mounted on a steel block that fits inside the handguard's bottom channel - and bolted to a 3-slot M-lok rail underneath - so it's still free floated! The sides of the handguard act as a cant stop so it can only rotate so far to the side, got about 25 degrees of total cant on the bipod which I think is pretty good!

Got the Nil Grip direct from Germany, good guys to deal with although a bit of wait; and as Trinimon said, they're pretty pricey! But I love it and it does add a bit of class to the rifle :p

I think the M-Lok AFG fits pretty nice with the bipod, gives a nice little area for your hand to get into.

ETA:

Here's a CAD drawing of the little adapter. Send it to a machine shop and got it made from 4140 steel, then just had to tap it! I had to drill out the rear hole of the bipod cant plate to fit over the pin. But it interlocks with a Magpul M-Lok 1-slot accessory.

(It's upside down here)

So finally got the last piece of the puzzle!

Daniel Defense S2W 18" Barrel; 4150 CMV Hammer forged, and Nitride finished!

The old barrel I had was a 16" lightweight barrel, but I figure this thing will be much nicer to reach out a little further. It does add a little weight, but it seems to be right around the middle of the rifle, so it's not bad at all. Can still point the gun around pretty quick!

Looking forward to a range report. I've been tempted to pick up that same barrel as well.

I'm hoping to get out soon as well, really exited to see what this barrel will do with some heavier ammo.

I am the fan of the integrated bipod on the scout

The Scout and the Swiss Arms (and the G36/SL8) kinda inspired this! I really like how the Scout Bipod is basically the handguard, nice and sleek!

Looks like an HK SL-8 bipod.

It definitely is! Easier to get a hold of compared to a Swiss Arms one, and a lot easier to mount; although the swiss arms one is a bit more durable.

Your AR looks fantastic! Well done.

Thanks! It's taken a long time to get it this far!

I totally forgot though, I need an M-Lok QD cup sling mount for further up on the forend, I forgot to order it for the past 2 brownells orders :p

Looking good! I'm pretty sure some of our sponsors carry m-lok accessories. They may be able to get the sling mount to you in less time and for not too much more $$$.

Yeah I've been waiting on CTC Supplies or Wolverine to get them in, so far I haven't seem them in-stock anywhere yet! I'll probably hold off unless I need some gunsmithing tool as the price for shipping from CTC or Wolverine is far better!
