anybody shoot a 17 remington?

The .17 Remington is a great cartridge. Very little recoil, and I have had great accuracy with mine. I do not have any significant barrel fouling problem. I rarely need to scrub the barrel; I usually do it after a couple of hundred rounds because I am putting it away for the season.
No problems reloading, although it is sensitive to small changes when you reach the upper end of velocity.

had one (700 LVSF) for a short bit last spring, sold it to MPWolf

I have a 17 Fireball now, its a bit more powder efficient and still pretty damn fast!

I have a buddy who uses one for coyote hunting, and I do some reloading for him.He says it is a very accurate and loves it for killing coyotes , as there are really small holes to sew when he skins them. They are a real pain in the ass to reload tho as I have big fingers and the tiny bullets are hard for me to handle...

I only shot one yote with one and it fell over bang flop, then when I was walking over to it it jumped up and buggered off! Not impressed, never ever happened with my 204. Still I know guys that use them and love them.

I've had no problem making one-shot kills on coyotes with it, but sometimes the wind can beat them up so I try to keep my shots under 300 yds.
It is certainly a fun round to hunt varmints with... amazingly accurate. :)

I've got an older 700 BDL that has seen very little use. When I bought it, I placed an ad here looking for components and a guy contacted me and offered 220 rounds of factory 25gr. HP for sale. The price was right so I took a chance and the gun shoots the stuff under and inch. So for that reason, I haven't started reloading for it yet.

I've only shot one coyote with it, and it was a bang-flop at 130 yards. Had a small exit wound, with bits of copper jacket stuck around it under the skin.

One of the negatives is the itty little bullets if you are a reloader. A friend suggested i get a small child to seat bullets and save my fingers from getting pinched.

I've owned 3 17's. Two BDL's and one LVSF, all M700's. They were all finicky to load for, and the last one, ironically, the most expensive, shot the worst. I could not get it to shoot under an inch consistently. I saved for two years for an LVSF and then got one and the dang thing wouldn't shoot. I was very disappointed. That was the last 17 I owned.
My brother has a Remington classic that shoots awesome and is not nearly as finicky. My bro-in law has a Tikka and it also shoots great.
If you are looking for a fur saver, you can't beat the 17 Remington with 25gr bullets.
Shooting stationary called coyotes I rarely got exits on the coyotes I shot, and most times, the little bullet levelled them, DRT!
Comparatively I find the 204 with 35gr bullets a little harder on hides.
The 223 with 52gr bullets is harder hitting and definitely harder on hides.
Overall, the 17 is a fun cartridge to play with. I did find it that it simply requires more work all around than other small cartridges.

I've owned a couple. Excellent cartridge, challenging to reload! Those dinky bullets are hard to finesse with adult sized fingers. Doesn't kick, accurate, and relatively quiet.
Want to get another one someday but am holding out for one that fits me and feels perfect. An older BDL I think would be close, just have to find one for the right price.
Shot one coyote with mine and it was 100 yards DRT in the base of the neck. No exit and couldn't find the pinprick entrance till a day later.

It makes a good coyote killer when a Hornady 25 gr hp is used. Loaded up with Kindler 30gr Gold bullets it will kill anything with hair. ( in Montana of course ).

Results on coyotes with mine were never consistent until my father sourced some bonded bullets eons ago - and that made it a very nice coyote rifle.

I particularly love watching gophers "evaporate" in the scope, and with a bit of experimenting was able to come up with a load that is well under moa.

One of the rifles I don't need but will never sell.

I have a 17FB and really like it. Brass might be a little harder to find. Try Saubier.com for small caliber related info.

I have shot the .17 rem for more than 10 yrs and still enjoy it. I love seeing magpies explode when hit. Every yote hit so far has expired instantly.
I also shoot .204, 22/250, .22 hornet and love them all.
For the.17 I keep my shots on yotes to 300 yds or less.

I have a Tikka 55DL in a 17. The Remington factory bullets clocked at 3680 fps, so I started reloading. The 25 gr now fly over 4200 fps and give MOA or better. Also have problem holding those little pills when reloading. Great cartridge for around the farmyard as I don't have to worry too much about them doing much damage. I usually clean after about 25 shots though I really haven't used it that much. I also use 204,22-250,220.

I had a 700BDL once - fantastically accurate, one-hole groups with 20 grain vmax. I never did chrony it, but the load was a tiny bit over the max listed data.

Thing is, I find that everything the 17 does, the 204 does better. Minimal recoil, so you can spot your own shots even under high magnification, and it does better in the wind. Better terminal ballistics, too
