I'm thinking about buying a rifle in either a Tikka or a Sako in 260. Seems to have good balistics, but not very popular for some reason, Thanks FS

I've had two different 700 mountain rifles in 260. I love the calibre and my fav load for whitetail is 125 partition over H4350 at just under 2900 fps.

Everytime I see a used Sako in 260 I have a hard time not buying it.

the 260 Remington is a great cartridge. Great accuracy, good selection of bullets from varmints to larger game, low recoil, flat shooting, good retained velocity downrange due to high BC bullets

only downfall is finding a factory rifle, and not good selection of factory ammo

Exactly..... I own two 260's and love them. They are sweet for 1000 yard matches and great for hunting. Just shot a 4x4 opening day with a Sierra 139 Game King - no problem. Both rifles were custom made. Not sure what is available in a factory rifle these days in this caliber. If you can find one you'll love shooting it. Great all around rifle, you can't go wrong.

I've got a very rare Remington 700 BDL S/S DM with engraved receiver and a factory 24" sportster barrel. The factory tupperware was sold and replaced with a HS Precision sportster stock. Had some issues getting a load that would shoot inside 1 MOA with this rifle but have since found that it likes H1000 and 120 BT's and 130 AB's.

I also have a SAKO 75 s/s Varminter with laminate stock and heavy fluted 22" barrel. I've set thi srig up for precision LR work on Groundhawgs and targets. I shoot Lapua Senars 108's, 123's and 139's out of this one from Nosler custom brass or Lapua 243 Win necked up. This rifle will do MOA all day long if I'm on my game.

Very comfortable cartridge to shoot and easy to load for. The VS SF II should have came out with this caliber not just the mountain rifles!

A buddy and I each have Remington Mountain rifles in 260 as light hunting rifles. Both took a little work on the bedding and some time at the reloading bench but both are moa with either 129 hornady or 125 partitions.

I shot a muly doe with mine last year and found it to perform as expected. Will be going out yet this fall to get another couple and will get a better idea on the performance.

Not popular in US factory rifles because the cal is misunderstood. It works wonderfully for all manner of grass eaters. Thousands of moose get dropped every year in Scandinavia using the 6.5 Swede - same thing, a bit longer.

Go for it. With 140gr SST/Amax, it can do dual duty for target and game. Put some 139gr Lapua through it for superb LR fun.

In LR target shooting, the 6.5 cal dominates many disciplines.

I have a Win88 and a Sako75 . In the 3 yrs the 88 has been in use my nephew and I have shot at least 15 mule deer with it .100gr hornady SP and 41gr Benchmark .This year so far the Sako has got 1 Moose and 1 mule .
125 gr partition and 49 gr H4831.As Jerry says hunting and target.139 gr Lapua Scenars 3/8ths of an inch at 100yds.I shot a gopher at 150yds with a 85 gr speer hollow point.Dusty61 was watching it with the spotting scope,He said it just disapeared in a splash of red.

I re-barreled my 22-250 Savage with a heavy 260 barrel, at 28" and 7.5" twist, it's superbly accurate out to 500 yards with the 140 AMAX. I haven't completed my load development yet to my satisfaction, and I haven't worked up any 'gopher' loads yet, though I hope to have some 95 grainers shooting well by the spring.

Anyway, it's a joy to shoot. Noticeably more recoil than a 243, but way less than a 308 and it has superior ballistics to both. Just the kind of thing that's totally comfortable to shoot at little targets way down range all day long

7.5" ROT is quick! Would handle those VLD's very nicely. Would be interested in hearing how the 95's went. When I was load developing I found that with the 24" tube, the 260 and anything heavier than 120's liked H1000 and approaching a compressed load. Accuracy was great but unsure about volocity as crony has not been out for a while.

While I do not have a 260 Remington, I do have a 260 AI in a HB Long range target rifle built on a 40X Single Shot action. It has a Krieger 1-8" twist SS barrel. It is wonderfully accurate, and shoots several bullets into tiny groups.
Capacity of the AI is very close to Jerry Teo's 6.5 Mystic. This comes very close to 3000 fps with the 139 Lapua. Powders that work best are H4831SC, IMR 7828, Norma MRP and Vihtavuori N560. Just for S**** & Giggles, I ran some 130 TSX's through it and shot a 1" 3-shot group at 300 Meters. Talk about a great rifle to have in a treestand while waiting by an alfalfa field for a big Whitetail Buck to show himself!! Hate to pack it though. Regards, Eagleye.

I also have the Sako 75 in the 260 Rem. Looked for some factory ammo to shoot and couldn't believe the poor selection of ammo but it’s not a problem because I had intentions on reloading any ways...

Found one

So my new 260 will be a Tikka stainless Varmint, should be a fine gun for some long range action with Prosper and his new 260. FS

Every now and then I shoot 140 Hornady interlocks at deer out of my Rem M7 stainless/tupperware in 260 - very well mannered little gun that seems to kill em dead. I sold my 6.5 Swede military sporter to buy it and have not regreted that.
