Anybody shooting a 260 Rem besides Bartell?

Don't know if anybody else has had this problem with a 260 Rem., but I've had less than satisfying groups with both 120 gr. and 140 bullets.
One day out of desperation I loaded some 160 Hornady RN that I used in the 6.5x54 MS....and they gave several groups of slightly over 1"...actually 1.1",
1.15", 1.20".
I also have some 140 Hornady RN long discontinued and will try those, but I'd like to know which brands of bullets and weights are working best for everybody else.

the 160 gr Hornady ice cream cone shot a half inch 3 shot the only time I loaded it in a friends Sako 75

the 155 grain Lapua Mega shoots a lil under 1" in my 260

My son bought a Model 7 in >260 this fall and we had a hard time sighting in with it even. Shooting Speer factory ammo in 140 gr. the groups were all over the place. Thoght either the gun or the scope were a lemon. Went and tried some Remington factory 140's and did much better. Will have to work up some loads this winter. Maybe that's why they're not popular, the avg. off the shelf shooter doesn't do well with them.

1:8 twist

My Ruger is supposed to be a 1 in 8 twist and handles 120 Speers just fine. About 1" at 100 yds, perhaps a bit less. The 130 Swifts are about the same, and they are quite a bit longer. Have yet to work much with the 140 SST's, again long but I'll see. 1 in 8 appears to be a good twist so far.

judging a cartridge on the performance of one rifle with two boxes of ammo, and two shooters of unknown ability, isnt very fair. :pirate:

Ruger twists are indeed 1:8, which IMO is the best twist for a 6.5mm of any sort

custom paint job

So I am at P&D and on the used rack is a Sako 85 that some guy painted red in 260 Rem with a conquest scope on top, with a sign the gun that says the paint can easily be removed.Very low round count. A heck of a buy if you can live with a red paint job. FS

Shot my new rifle

Well after not shooting for a month or so I got my new 260 to the range with a couple boxes of 120 gr Btip ammo. Well a snappy little round that 260, real easy on the shoulder with a limbsaver and that heavy barrel. Didn't get any real special groups with the rifle, did manage 2 in one hole once. Shooting at 100 meters, I found all the info in that Leupold scope, with the LR varmint reticle some what distacting the first time out?
Will try some factory 140's next then load for it later this winter.

Iam having computer troubles at home so this is under some one elses handle

Well my .260 project is advancing faster than I expected. I might be able to test her out shortly after the holidays. It was supposed to be a winter project, I guess I'll have to find something else to do.

I still have that Boyds stock to finish fom my Savage .22-250.
