Anybody shooting a 6.5x47L

I have seen a couple of them in use. One of the fellows I know has not been able to get his to group the way he was expecting and has sort of put it aside; that was an eye-opener because he is the best shooter I know. After some thought, I ordered a 6x47 reamer and opted to build a 6X47 Lapua instead. Almost identical performance-wise to a 6XC and but with Lapua brass.

Look at 6mmhot dot com

That's interesting. I've already bought the 6.5 barrel but can't decide on the round. Is your buddie shooting Lapua brass?

Yep, Lapua brass and lapua bullets, but what twist he was using? 1:8 I'm pretty sure. Krieger barrel and a Panda action all done up my Mick McPhee

I have a 1 in 8 Kreiger also with a 700 action. Is he just working at 100 or is he trying to stretch it out? Any idea about bullet weight?

Dennis is an F-class shooter and 300M is the closest he competes at. I can't give you specific details about load etc. His comments to me just helped me make up my mind between 6X47 and 6.5X47.

Ob - Thanks for the info. Guess I'll have to make a decision one of these days. Kind of hate to invest in a reamer and dies and not be happy. Are you far enough along to have an opinion on the 6X47 case? I already shoot a 6X284 and a 243Ack so I have enough 6's at the moment but it doesn't hurt to plan ahead. I think that's my problem, I plan ahead too much.

I talked to Paul Reibin the other day on the phone, and he was very happy the way his 6.5X47 performed at the World's in Ireland this year.
he really likes his ....

waitaminute - what ranges are YOU planning on using it? a 6ppc or similar, would be better choices for the 'point blank' ranges out to maybe 300M. Once you get to the 6mmBR and bigger, they don't really offer any accuracy advantage over the smaller cartridges (with their lower recoil and less heat) at 'close' range

Prosper - I mostly shoot at 100 but I can go out to 800 or so where I shoot at. As I said I already have a couple 6's plus theres no secret to making a 6br work. I've wanted to try a 6.5 for some time I just have to decide on the case.

The swede is certainly a close second choice and if I don't do that I'll look at the 260, maybe in an Ackley. If I go the swede or the Ack I don't have to buy a reamer. Ob are you and your buddie shooting tight necks?
