anybody use a red dot or reflex sight with a magnifier on their hunting rifle?

No, but I have tried it on a friends 45/70 (Bushnell TRG 25 I believe). Always felt that it would be fairly reasonable to use on something like that, or a small game rifle. Stuff where the shots aren't really likely to be far, given the usual dot sizes. 40 yards or so would be about as far as I could reasonably make use of that on a 22 RF for head shooting chickens I would think, but 100-150 yards on big game with a slower moving cartridge wouldn't hamstring you much I don't think.

I do have one on a Ruger 22/45 Lite, and it is fairly spectacular in that application.

I have used a red dot for a few years now cause we run deer with hounds and the action is usually fast. Most shots have been fairly close but If memory serves me correct my furthest shot was 90 yards and the dot covered a good piece of the deer. If you get a red dot with the 2 MOA dot size you will be good for further shots no problem

I have a 2x magnifier on a 2moa red dot on a hunting rifle I recently set up for west coast bush hunting. I was shooting between one and two hundred with it and it was doing well. Great for offhand shooting

Used one a while back on a Rem 870 12g with Cantilever Barrel, worked fine , at that time hunting ranging was around the 85 yard mark.
Swapped out for the Leupold Ultimate Slam 3-9x40 which top my other Shotguns and Muzzleloader, much prefer this set up.

Not sure if I would add the magnifier but I've played with a friends 7600 .30-06 that he has set up with a compact Red dot. I don't remember the make and model but it seemed very quick to bring to action for close shots and very usable to 200 yards. I was impressed enough I considered doing it to my 760 .308, but haven't yet.
I can see how mounting height, drop at comb and other stock fit issues may make it less usable and slower but set up like his was and since we have similar builds it was almost as quick as a well fitting shotgun.

I haven’t tried a magnifier but I do have an aimpoint site in my main hunting rifle (with QD rings so I can switch between it and a scope depending on the type of hunting I’m doing) with the 2 moa dot it’s easy to shoot out to at least 100 yards, I see no reason why a magnifier wouldn’t work well to extend that range. Although if you want magnification all the time I think a low power scope probably makes more sense.
