I can't seem to sign in to my youtube account to ask this guy questions so I'll put it out here. Been watching this channel a bit since I picked up a 45-120 Ruger No. 1. The guy in the videos is in Canada and also has a custom No.1 in 45-120! Really wanted to pick his brain on some BP reloading topics. I already shoot BP (not much) but new to BPCR. Also wondering if perhaps he's on here and if someone knows him, sure would simplify things! Even if you aren't into BP this guys rifle is pretty sweet. I watch his videos, he's very knowledgeable and entertaining. His rifle is a work of art!!! If you've watched his vids, you know that he shoots 5744 in his Ruger #1. If you're looking for advice in BPCR, lots of stuff on youtube and lots of stuff here as well. Loading protocol for BPCR is the same, no matter the caliber, with a lot of variables. It's a different ballgame than loading with smokeless! It's a rabbit hole with a long learning curve. I've been shooting BPCR for a few years now and I still don't have a load worked up for my 40-65 or my 45-70's(4) or my 45-90. I'm close but more work needed!
A friend, who is a competitive BPCR shooter, fired almost 1000 rds working up a load for his 45-100! That's over 13 lbs of powder, a brick of primers and 80 lbs of lead and 4 lbs of tin! He was at the range most every day, sometimes twice a day trying different things. He's a dedicated BPCR shooter!!!
If you plan on shooting full power loads in your #1, it's a punishing cartridge! Another buddy at our club shoots a Pedersoli Sharps in 45-120. He loads it with 105 Grs Goex FFg with a 535 Gr Postell bullet. He's happy to set it down after 10 rounds!
