Anyne has a "legal sawed off" shotgun?

don't know if you even need to have it reverified if its still non restricted and still over 470 mm there is no change in its status,

on another note, I have an unknown-name chinese breakaction single shot 12 ga with a barrel around 16 inches - breakls down easily in 2 pieces stock/action and barrel/forend. Haven't fired it yet but if it patterns OK would make a good backpack or grouse gun.

I would like to have a "legal sawed off" shotgun :) ; buy a cheap single shot and make a pistol grip (or cut original) Also maybe shorted the barrel by several inches while still maintaining the non-restricted status.

Would make a nice wilderness/bush gun and fan range toy IMO...

Anyone done that? Opinions? what gun did you use? pics?
Everything I have read on the subject says that it has to have a barrel length no shorter than 18.5 inches and have an overall length not shorter than 26 &3/4 inches.
Factory barrels , I'm not sure about.

I think you would to save trouble down the road when the gun barrel length didn't match what's on the registration card.

IM_LUGGER; I believe it's a IGA Backpacker. They've been out for a while, kinda cute in a fuggy way, reg length stock & 12" barrel.

agree with you about the card. but my cards only say either "470 mm or greater" or "less than 470 mm" so if you chopped a barrel to 18.5" you would still be in the "470mm or greater" category. at 18 inches yes the length data if it's "470mm or greater" on the card is no longer valid

I have several 870's and a couple of below 18.5 inch barrels that although they are on 870s that are registered with the short barrels could be moved to any of the others. Guess that means I should get extra cards for all the 870's in case I should decide to swap barrels.

Or you could get the Dlask 8.5" shotgun, its an 870 based gun and is non-restricted.

$550 for an 8.5" barrel is a bit much for me.

has anyone actually patterned with an 8.5" shotty?
with a shotgun i would be more inclined to get an 18" barrel and shorten the gun via a folding stock than to leave a fixed stock and shorten via the barrel. id like the gun to retain most of its 12g usefulness and versatility - doesnt seem like you could do much other than breaching and shooting someone 10 feet in front of you with an 8.5" barrel.

Here is my truck gun.

Nice single shots guys. :) I love the look of a real short single. So simple, yet a timeless look to them. This may have been discussed before, but what if I want to install an adjustable choke, like a Poly-choke, but I still want the over all length of the barrel to be 18.5 inches. Can I legally cut the barrel to 17 inches and permanently attach a 1.5 inch choke?

No. A muzzle attachment or extension does not count for barrel length, no matter how it is attached.

If you want a barrel that meets the legal minimum, and has choke options, the muzzle can be reamed and threaded for choke tubes.
