Anyone actually hunt with a Wingmaster?

Does anyone actually still bring their 870 Wingmaster to the duckblind or carry it through the bush shooting slugs at deer? Im just thinking this because it is such a nice gun and highly polished, back 40 years ago this woulda been the norm but they didnt have synthetic and bead blasting like we do now.

So how many of you out there still bring your 870 Wingmasters out regularly to the field and get em dirty? Stories please!!!
 
All the time - that's what they are MADE for. They are tools (for me, anyway).

Nothing like looking good in your duck blind. All the goofs with 870 'express' models will be/should be jealous. ;)
 
I use mine all the time. Granted, it's an older one that I put a new barrel on so I could have removable chokes, and I got a sweet deal on it.
It's in nice shape, a bit of blue wear, but nice smooth action.
I look at shotguns as field/utility guns, so I expect them to get dirty and maybe scratched.

Received my first one in 12GA over 15 years ago and I've been using it every deer, duck, geese and upland bird season since, 100% satisfied. Since then I pick up a 16 GA and a 410. You just can't go wrong with a Wingmaster...
 
I do, it doesn't go out for geese anymore, but I do use it for upland and sporting clays. If I have it converted to 3" it'll start going out to the goose field again.
 
Blued and satin finish here, and this fella has seen everything in the last 15 years!
From clays to the big canada goose, this is my do-it-all gun, it never ever let me down after 1000 and 1000 of hunting rounds... and I clean it about once a year :)
 
My 20ga Wingmaster is probably my favourite hunting gun. Usually for partridge, but a pocketful of slugs just in case something interesting comes along.

I think a Wingmaster is the next gun I am going to buy, I have been in search of a shotgun with good fit/finish and looks for around $600-$700. I have always kinda danced around the idea of getting a Wingmaster cause I do alot of waterfowling and I just had a hard time seeing myself out in a duck blind with a gun that nice and gorgeous!!!

But I dont think there is a better gun fit/finish and quality wise for around $600 than a wingmaster. I have been buying cheap semi-autos for a while only to be dissapointed with the quality and fit/finish.

I think a 3" Wingmaster with a 28" barrel would be good for ducks, geese and turkeys. I will need a slug barrel for it in a year or two cause we hunt deer alot with shotguns in S. Ontario, and hey barrels for 870's are evreywhere.

Whadya think about my idea???
 
My 20 ga circa 1966 has lost a bit of its blueing from carrying it, but I still use it that is what it was made to do.
 
When I was just a little one Dad and most of his friends used Wingmasters. Express models didn't exist. Back then hunters thought different. It was cool to have a shottie with nice walnut and deep bluing in a duck blind, a pit dug in a field with decoys or standing in the cat-tails shooting passing birds. There were a lot of different brands of shotties but sliding a shiny Wingmaster out of it's soft case meant you "have arrived".

Now so many hunters are going for the flat or camo finishes and plastic stocks. What does it matter if your gun is shiny when you are in a blind or hiding in a pit or weeds? If it did you could use camo tape. I still like the look of walnut and a deep blue. For the non-hunting months they sure look better on the wall too!

That's on shotguns for me. But for rifles where stock stability is an accuracy issue I do like wood laminates or synthetic stocks. A lot of good memories for me when I see a shiny 870 :)
 
Got a 1957 at a gun show for $150 and started hunting my waterfowl hunting habit with it close to 8 years go, but it's too pretty, so I got an Express and an old A5 and she's a closet queen now.

Bluing you can shave in.
 
Just a question about the new Wingmasters, are they now putting the new recoil pads on all 12 gauge Wingmasters? I held a newer one about a month ago that had a Remington Supercell recoil pad???
 
I'm putting Remington factory synthetic stocks on my Wingmaster. The old wood was the police style and it was beat. I finally gave up on the glued together fore end this year. I have to find a gunsmith to do the 3" conversion for me this summer. I'll still use my express for goose hunting out of the layout blind, it has camo stocks and a matte finish and doesn't flare birds.
