Found this on another site, suits me since i am looking for data with IMR 3031 or reloader 15 and 150grain speers. Which is very hard to find thus far. Tell me if this is good advice or bad advice.

"One problem those that reload the 7.62x54R have is that the cartridge is not popular enough to include the amount of data that other cartridges have, such as the .30/06 and .308. Where .308 data in most manuals might include ten to fifteen different powders, the 7.62x54 might only have four or five combinations. The companies do not dislike the 7.62x54, there is just not as much interest in that data. The solution is to use .308 STARTING loads for starting loads in the 7.62x54R. Ed Harris recommended this in an article in American Rifleman some years back. I have tried this with several different powder and bullet combinations, and it works."

Thanks, Ryan.

I would consider it OK to go with this recommendation. The capacity of the 7.62x54R, the 308 Winchester and the 303 British are all very close to identical, so in a strong action, similar loads should be fine. I have a P14 303 British, and have used 308 loads in it for years with outstanding results. Always exercise sound reloading practices as you work up your loads, of course. Regards, Eagleye.

That makes sense, I would like to agree with this guy so i can have access to lots of info.

Anyone else out there want to share their brain with us?

I highly recommend getting a copy of Hornasy's reloading manual as it contains data for .311 and .308 dia bullets with a wide range of powders. It also has a bunch of estoteric stuff in it like 7.65 Argentine

IIRC the 7.62x54R is closer to the 30-06 in capacity than the .308. and also IIRC Lee's data even states that they are 30-06 loads reduced 10%.

i have chrono'ed 7.62x54r ammo and it is faster than the 7.62 NATO that i chrono'ed and is as fast as claimed 308 velocities (and in a shorter barrel to boot).

okay so on my quest to find load data i noticed the lee limited production pace setter dies i ordered come with load data, too funny. Hope they cover IMR 3031 and 150 grainers.

Thanks for the info guys.
