Anyone bought a Yugo Mauser?

Frank, if you buy "as new" it will be "as new" with maybe a few minor storage dings in the stock at most. If it's anything other than that, they will replace it with a better one or refund your money, shipping included. Best guarantee out there.

what they won't generally do is take money off the price to make you happier with a substandard rifle. They'll insist on full refund or exchange and I can't blame them - stops less scrupulous people from ripping them off ;)
 
Well, here's hoping Marstar holds on to a couple of the original 'as new' M48s for a monthe or two, 'til I have some cash...

I guess the chances of them getting any more are pretty slim, eh?

Especially when Marstar was selling them for $199.99.
Immaculate condition, teak stock, and quite accurate too.
Great bang for the buck.
I regret very much selling it.

PS, the guy I sold it to, can I have it back??;)

Well, I would agree about price, but as far as quality, fit and finish goes, I think the M48/M48A's are better, but of course people paid a lot more for them. It's probably academic because I think all of the good ones are gone now, so folks need keep any eye open in the EE forums. I saw a terrific looking M48 sell in the EE forums the other day and I don't think it lasted a few hours.

I have both the 1948 Model M48 and Model 1924/47 converted Mausers. I do prefer the former and in my opinion, it's really easy to tell the manufacturing quality difference by just looking at the pics in detail.

I think it depends on the 24/47 you get...there are scrubbed FN model 24's and refinished Yugo 24's. The scrubbed FN's I've seen look a little rougher, generally sport the original walnut stock (like the one in your pic) and may have a mismatched elm handguard. Nothing wrong with them, just not alot of time spent on the final finishing. The Yugo reworked 24's are generally in better shape finish wise as they weren't scrubbed, look like new, and sport some new elm stocks and handguards.

Well, I guess I mean that as with any diminishing resource that started out with each piece being different, it would be logical to assume that what's left at the bottom of the barrel has already been pretty picked over. :D

I know that phenomenon is true of Samco and their M41b sniper rifles. As the folks at the end of the queue are buying and receiving them, more are posting on the U.S. forums that they have issues with them. I also know that the "as new" M48 I bought from another CGN member, was one that he had physically returned to Marstar as he wasn't pleased with their first pick. He related to me that he went out back and went through several rifles before he found the one you see in the pics.

So, "Caveat Emptor", but I think it's safe to assume with Marstar's money back guarantee, that at least you can return anything you aren't happy with. To save time and stress, I think the best thing to do if possible, would be to visit Marstar and assist them in the actual picking process.

I find it safer to buy a rifle from one of you chaps after an explanation of condition and pics than buying any rifle unseen (Marstar or otherwise).
 
I actually asked the fella at the Marstar, since I live so close to them, if I could come and pick up, but I was told not. So I'm not so sure they would be willing to let me pick through their stock to find one I like- but I suppose there is no harm in asking.

Probably safe to assume the bottom of the barrel has been picked over- not likely to find any low serial numbers I guess.

Maybe it would be better to buy in the EE forums if Marstar was not willing to allow me into their warehouse.
