Anyone build a C7A1 from their SA20?

The most common mod for the SA20s seems to be the addition of the green furniture and extra bits to create a C7A2. For a variety of reasons, I've got a soft spot for the C7A1 and was thinking I might go that direction with my SA20.

Anyone here done a similar retrofit? Or would this be CC sacrilege?

I used an SA20 upper and a non SA marked lower with A2 buttstock. As far as diemaco, colt Canada builds it was one of the easier ones to build since I started with a stripped lower and didn't need ambi-controls or sling mount which were pretty hard to find before the enhanced lowers came out.
Now if only I could find a C7 upper.

Some great feedback here, thanks!

derrob7...you're not the only one on the hunt for a C7 upper. I managed to track down a used DPMS A1 for my C8 clone build but I hear whispers that there a Diemaco-marked C7 uppers out there. Just have to refinance the mortgage to pay for it! :D

I've thought about buying an SA20 to do exactly what you're thinking of - to recreate my issue rifle from back in the day :) I think I may even have an old A2 buttstock around here somewhere!

I never was a fan of the C7A2 from the first day I was issued. I found the balance was all out of wack, extended controls and ambi that were crap. First week in Afghanistan I had them remove the ambi mag release and stupid charging handle for regular ol A1 one.

I ended up with one of them. I've been told the rail on these is actually the NATO standard rail. The friction points are the tops of the rail sections instead of the angled parts.

The uppers are unserialized. I have no idea what serial range because they're all mixed up anyways.

It seemed a bunch of the last few SA15.7s sold had them. I sold one at some point on the EE.

I ended up with a couple of them as well. One for sure was off of a SA 15.7 but I switched it because I made a C8 SFW clone. When installing the KAC M4 rail the numbers start at 14 so you need an upper receiver that ends in 13 if you want it to match. Wasn't a big deal just used the 14 slot uppers on C7A2 and C8A1 clones with hand qaurds instead of rails.

I did a little more research into these. I was told these are CC standard semi-auto upper. If you flip over you will notice there is no race track cut into the receiver and can't be used on a full auto rifle. But they are the rarest of the uppers. They were only used on a small number of rifles.

Same upper used on all the police and leo issued guns with standard front sight gas blocks. Just like the semi auto lowers are the same except for the DS vs DB serial number suffix.

Rare in terms of how many were used on sa20 and sa15.7 guns, not rare in the terms of how many have been built over all when adding in leo and gov't semi auto contracts.
