Has anyone called before 28 days to do the whole "ask for an update and then have a reference check over the phone on the spot?"

Id imagine it would make the process go a bit faster, at least that way it could be issued on the 28th/29th right?

Well in my case the license status was updated before the 28th day. It is in progress, meanwhile my brothers, who sent it out on the same day, has still not updated. I emailed the CFC around a week before the 28th day, and they supplied me a number to call on the 28th day. They told my references to call and supply my application number, and this would speed up the process.

If you dont know the number (you probably do, its on the site)

1 800 731-4000

If your status updates before the 28th or already has, tell your refs to contant that number with your application number.

They called me about 2 1/2 week after reception (inside the 28 day range). My license was issued exactly on the 28th day (status changed on the website)

According to the website they still do not have my application, I sent it in about 2 weeks ago.

Other guys can correct me if I'm wrong, but I think it can take a few weeks to even show up on the site as "application received".

They sure don't seem very organized over there at the CFC...surprise surprise

Thats odd some of you got it faster than 28 days, as 28 days is the legal minimum to do a thorough background check. Better not let Wendy hear about this.

I just called they still do not have my application, i mailed it out TWENTY days ago!!!! I live in ontario as well.

That sucks! I mailed mine out, registered mail. It went into the system 1.5 weeks later... now waiting begins for something to happen.

What have they done with the $2 billion??? :-(

Man I finished my class almost 2 months ago I wont be getting my license for probably another month and a half :S I was really hoping to have it for the summer

I can totally understand the 28 days of waiting (cooling off period) but when it stretches for others for months and months without any good reason such as just sitting on someone's desk and a phone call to nudge them is absurd. :-(

Ya I can see the 28 days but when that is stacked on with the month it took for my test to get back then a month for them to get it, it starts to get annoying.

I hear ya man... If this is a ploy to just make it harder/longer on us to get approved, so be it. If it's just due to inefficiency in the system, then our hard earned tax dollars is going to waste. :-( LOL!

Damn and I thought 3 weeks was long to get my test results back.

However, at the end, what difference does it make? Those that have no reason to get rejected should just get approved in the standard 28 days... Like where did the $2+ billion to go?

So I called today and had my refs do the interview process. I was hoping they would issue it over the phone but I guess not... Hopefully soon.

About it showing up on the site. It can take over 2 weeks to even show.

To assume its inefficiency would be both right and wrong. It is the government so it is going to have all the default inefficiencies that goes along with that. The whole system and laws around firearm ownership is setup to discourage people.

The 2 Billion is gone and we can never get it back. And the data in the system is not worth anything.

Very true...

Too bad it's not as fast as getting your passport or driver's licence. Oh well...

Would make an awesome desk job esp. with RCMP pay and no 'dangers' accociated with job. In theory, that place must be super laid back. haha

I called the Friday, day 25 because my references were going to be outta town after that day and they hadn't been called yet. They gave me the runaround and said call Monday anyways. I checked online monday and I was approved, no phone calls to me or references. I got my pal in the mail the following Wednesday.

For restricted they always call. Non restricted some people don't get called. I would suggest as soon as it comes up on the website to call in and do your interview and get your references to call in as well. Call again the third week to make sure they don't need any more information and then after its on the website as approved you can call and get your PAL number and order firearms online before your card comes in the mail.
