I used to reload 9 years ago, but had to pause due to the birth of my 2nd child and no free time. I'm ready to get back into the game now, and while waiting for a Ruger Redhawk 44 mag transfer to go through (and also for the pandemic situation to resolve and get reinstated at the gun club), I have nothing else to do about this hobby, but do some reloads. I already have about 300 cases of 44 mag, primers, and projectiles (240gr CamPro TC full copper plated, and 240gr cast lead SWC BB gas-checked). I just ordered 3 x 1lb powder: Alliant Unique, Alliant 2400 and Winchester 296.

Whatever I reload, I won't get to try it for probably another two months or more, so before I begin---I'd feel so much better if somebody looks over my load data---just trying to reduce the chance of finding out later that I've wasted the material. Also, although my OCD helps being precise, I've tried to stay slightly away from the max/min limits.

Light load: 9 grain Unique / 240 grains lead SWC / CCI 300 primers
Mid load: 19.5 grains of 2400 / 240 grains FCP / CCI 300 primers
Hot load: 23.5 grains of 296 / 240 grains FCP / CCI 350 magnum primers

Thanks in advance!

They look good to me. I use 21r 2400 with 240gr pills. 9.5 UNIQUE for the same. 296 is slower than 2400 and 23.5 sounds about right. Hogdon Reloading website will give you a correct load. Check it out.

Thanks guys! I found my notes from 2011, apparently I used 20gr with the 2400 back then, and that was with a supposedly weaker SW 629. Also, lot's of people seem to use 21gr (like MuthaFunk above) and even more grains with that powder, so I'll go with 20gr (like I said, I like to be a notch below any max, I'm a newbie). Updated list:

Light load: 9 grain Unique / 240 grains lead SWC / CCI 300 primers
Mid load: 20 grains of 2400 / 240 grains FCP / CCI 300 primers
Hot load: 23.5 grains of 296 / 240 grains FCP / CCI 350 magnum primers

Huh...just looked up the bullet load data for the projectiles I have (240 CamPro TC FCP). Apparently for the 2400 they recommend 18 to 19.5 grains. Hmm...

Is that because they determined it's most accurate that way, I wonder? I guess I'm back to 19.5, updated list:

Light load: 9 grain Unique / 240 grains lead SWC / CCI 300 primers
Mid load: 19.5 grains of 2400 / 240 grains FCP / CCI 300 primers
Hot load: 23.5 grains of 296 / 240 grains FCP / CCI 350 magnum primers

Did some research, the 7gr max for Alliant Unique seems to be for soft cast bullets. Mine are "hard cast" (says so on the box), so more powder should be fine. But rather than the initially decided 9, I'll do 8---after all, I want to create a load that is lighter and soft on recoil. Here's my updated list (I keep posting it, so when I refer to this thread later, I remember what I last decided):

Light load: 8 grain Unique / 240 grains lead SWC / CCI 300 primers
Mid load: 19.5 grains of 2400 / 240 grains FCP / CCI 300 primers
Hot load: 23.5 grains of 296 / 240 grains FCP / CCI 350 magnum primers
