Anyone care to see a Webley Mark VI Fire?

Harrumph! The wusses in the video are using that modern, "girlie" two-hand hold .... ;)

And they aren't properly attired, either ......

I love this gun. Its my holy grail of firearms, I hope to shoot it someday.

When I want to see a Webley MkVI fired, I take mine out to the range and fire it. :p

If you are ever going to be in my neighbourhood, get in touch and I'll let you have a go.

I see there is one just gone up in the EE. Looks nice, but $750. I wouldn't pay that much, but I'm a guy who doesn't have $750 lying around idle and who does already have the gun.

I saw it for sale too. If I had money to buy it and a range membership it would be mine.

Rouke's drift down at the local Timmes eh?

Well, you are actually remarkably close (except for the 'local Timmes' part ;) ) ..... that photo was taken in Kansas, where they have never heard of the chain. I was shooting at the 2004 National Muster of the Grand Army of the Frontier (GAF - a 'niche' organization melding cowboy action-style shooting with 19th-century military history/re-enactment). And that year they did actually have one shooting stage scenario based on the Defence of Rorke's Drift! It was written to require shooters to load and fire one rifle round at a time in their lever-action rifles, to simulate the single-shot 577/.450 Martini-Henry rifles used by British troops at that time.)

Rifles used in the main stages at GAF shoots back then were limited to pistol-caliber just as in regular cowboy action shooting, but I was prevailed upon to shoot through that particular stage using the Martini-Henry I had with me for the long-range side match. What a hoot! Three rounds were fired at each of four gongs set at progressively greater distances, the first three were moveable gongs slung on stands (no problem with the light pistol caliber bullets, of course) and the only 'solidly planted' gong was the last one in the series to be shot - a permanent one at about 100 yards. I said I would be delighted to shoot the scenario with the Martini-Henry, but cautioned that the closer gongs would almost certainly be knocked down when hit. They said "if" that happened I should just switch to the next gong and keep going. As it turned out, only one of the closer gongs stayed up for more than one shot .... and that one went down on the second hit .... so I ended up having to take almost all of my shots at the furthest gong - which thankfully was a big one.

The entire line shut down so everybody could come to that station to watch the 'performance' - and I was treated to a round of applause when I finished. That episode was actually the genesis of development of the "Battle Rifle" shooting categories at GAF shoots for the past two years - in which actual pre-1901 main battle rifles are used. (I am proud to say that for the past two years, since Battle Rifle classes have been offered, as the sole representative of the British Empire I have placed First in the Single-shot Battle Rifle category, shooting a Canadian-marked Mark III Martini-Henry (different rifle from the one in the photo above) and an 'Antique' .455 Webley 'WG' model revolver ....

Is the Lanyard tied around your neck?

Yes, in appropriate19th century fashion .....
(If you were wondering why the lanyard isn't affixed to the belt, that is a practice which didn't develop until well into the 20th century) -

Also, it isn't 'tied' actually - but the running loop of the lanyard does go around the neck .....

^^^ They haven't been standard issue since the invention of steel headwear sadly.
