Does anyone know if someone is casting and sizing .45-70 ??
Currently I'm shooting .350 gr with good results, but I want to try some heavier ones as well.
Edited to add: I'm shooting a Uberti clone of the Winchester single shot Hiwall slugged at
.457

I cast 3 types of lead bullets for my Pedersoli 1874 45-70
The 340gr from Lee mold
The 405gr from Lee mold
The 500gr from Lyman mold #457125
They all shoot good but for long range ,the 500gr is the best.I've shot them at 600 yds

Black powder is the most accurate and consistent in this cartrige but now I mostly use small loads of 4198 or 5744. The bullets mustn't be too hard, otherwise I get a lot of leading  It's always fun when I offer someone to try my rifle and hand them a cartrige loaded with the 500gr::eek:, they usally have second thoughts before shooting but I explain that they're low pressure loads

I cast and load lyman 457102(+/-460gr) a Saeco 425gr spire point and CBE's 458380. They all give very good accuracy with 24 - 26gr 2400, the Saeco having the edge with frequent sub - moa 5 shot groups at 100yds.

One thing to point out, is that some lever guns don't like long reloads very well, and some of the 500 grain bullets out there are on the long side. Be sure your OAL is correct, or you may be taking down your rifle to get the cartridges out of the mag.
I've not had the issue with my 1886 Winchester (so far), but I understand some of the Marlin guns are prone to this.
