Just wondering if anyone collects MN m44s (59/53 too), and if so if its reasonably easy to put a great collection together?
 
I wasn’t looking for mine when I bought them. I already had 4 91’s so when I seen the first one I thought why not. Excellent condition Polish. Second one is a Hungarian. Now I am keeping an eye out for one from another country. I’ve come to like them. Was looking at a 38 but fellow was way overpriced.

I’ve heard of those, never seen one in person, any idea where it’s from?

Always wanted one of those Czech M38s with the hex receivers. One came up on EE years ago and I passed it up because I couldn’t justify owning two 38s. I still kick myself today.
 
Don’t have a collection of them, don’t even have a M44 anymore. It is for the most part a relatively simple collection, Hungarian, Polish, Soviet, Chinese. Might be some more variants you can add in there. Haven’t seen many of those variations for sale in recent years however (been a while since I have seen a Type 53 for sale).

If you wanted to get very serious with it you can attempt to find a 1943 trials gun but thats hens teeth.
 
I used to have a decent collection of them when they used to cost $300 or so, but once I had all the possible variants and factories, I lost interest and sold them off over time to focus on other things.

They are harder to find now and a good collection of them would be harder to assemble.
 
Wish I never sold the One, I had years ago. I kinda like short' barrelled rifles these days. I wouldn't mind finding a 'shooter' grade, & using my 1939-91/30 towards it in trade.
As for value, not too sure, I think a reasonable lol person, would sell an 'average' one around $700 these days..? & up from there.

I'd like to pick up a decent m44 or even a m38 to a lesser extent, but people are really asking insane prices these days. Where is anyone finding these for decent prices?
 
Years back, Marstar offered non-matching M44’s for $35.95 + five cents for a second one. He even gave us a small dealer discount! I still have one and just acquired another one that I had sold to the “Yardmaster”, a fellow who was working at our salvage yard. Man, those were the days, my friend.

I still have Polish, Romanian, and Hungarian unissued ones in my pile.
 
My son has it now. But I had one marked all over the place with Waffenampts... had a double lightening bolt 'S's too.
I figure it was dynked with.
Cool to watch the purists lose their minds though

I’d imagine the ratio of M44s to M38s in the country is at least 5-1 so not really surprising.
 
Yea lots of m44s for 1000 - 1200 which is just flat out insane if you ask me. Id say most people share that sentiment since they seem to sit on the market forever. If I could find one that was in okay shape for a realistic price, preferably local id pick it up. I dont want to offend anyone because of course your entitled to ask whatever price youd like, its your property after all. Im only sharing my opinion.

Yeah I sold my shot out M38 (.315 and counterbored, rifling was practically flat) for $1200 two years ago, under full disclosure of its condition, and it sold in a day or so no haggling.

You might luck out and find someone’s 91/21 which was just a run of Marstar cutting down rusty old 91/30s. In a strange way I’m sure they’ll end up collectable in their own right.
