Hello,
Anyone out there can lend me a few tips or a hand in replacing my P226R's stock grips with the new E2 conversion grips?
I received the whole E2 grip set, removed the old hammer spring strut, spring etc...
but for some reason, I am unable to get the new hammer strut into the correct position in the frame.....Anyone did the conversion before and has any tips?
Thanks
Shawn

I did it recently and I admit it was a biatch to put on because the area where the spring must hold is shorter than the actual spring...

This is how I managed it:

I stuck a tiny screwdriver (You know the small set found at the dollar store for electronic) or the point of a Glock disassembly tool between the frame and the strut and then pushed the mainspring housing in with my thumb in place. The screwdriver u stuck there will prevent the strut from hitting the frame and get out of it's contact point with the hammer.

A bit of a pain to install but well worth it :D

Rivalen, I thought you liked the Houge g10's? I actually went the other way and put the Houge G10's on my 226 E2. I found the short trigger to close with the E2 grip. BTW, Wolff now sells a hammer spring calibration kit for the new 'E2' plastic base hammer spring which is being introduced across the line:

Hammer Springs (Plastic Base)

Plastic Hammer Spring Base- For Models P-220 thru P-229.

Recently Sig has started using a plastic hammer spring base/retainer with a short hammer spring. This is being phased in across all models. If your pistol has the plastic base/retainer for the hammer spring the following springs are for your pistol.

•Reduced Power...: 17, 18, & 19 Lb.
•Factory Standard.: 21 Lb
•Extra Power........: None Available

Hammer Spring Pak

Hammer Spring Pak - Reduced Power - This pak contains 1 each of 17, 18 and 19 pound reduced power hammer springs above, allowing adjustment of the firearm to individual requirements.
PLASTIC HAMMER SPRING BASE MODELS ONLY.

Individual springs are available as well.

Thanks for the tips....I gave up trying after 1 hr of trying to fit the strut into the frame....guess I am going to the range to get some help.....!

What exactly is the problem? Most of the time it's just that the hammer strut contacts the hammer a LOT further back than you think it will at first.

See above. Make sure that the strut is towards the rear of the pistol to make correct contact with the hammer. The curve at the top of the strut should be very close to the back of the frame. When you get it in place you should be able to move the hammer with your thumb and feel it compress the strut. When you feel you have it in the right position maintain it and push upward on the strut seat till it moves up and drops into place. It can be a little tricky as there is a lot of spring compression to overcome but the most important thing is to get the strut in the right spot to begin with.
As for the grips themselves take your time sliding them on and make sure that you don't disturb the trigger bag spring or the decocker spring. Some of the grips don't seem to fit very well into the screw holes so lay the pistol on it's side and apply some pressure to those areas if you end up with gaps instead of flush fitting grips. I know I had to do this and now they fit perfectly.
