Anyone else collect carcanos???

Some great Carcano's posted here! Awesome stuff!

I've had a couple but sold them off to fund my collecting focus.

I do often wonder about the 8x57 conversions being "dangerous". The Carcano action has been proven to be extremely strong. Member "Andy" on here has done testing to them and I have also put some extremely high pressure rounds through one without failure. I believe Ackley tested one and couldn't get it to fail.

Does anyone have any info as to why the 8x57 ones are dangerous or know of any actual documented failures?

I have a ts with a new made italian 8mm barrel. It was made for the export Arab contract, has a serial number with no prefix and no maker marks anywhere. I’ve never shot it....I’m a bit chicken. My understanding is that the locking surface inside the reciever was reduced in the conversion and the reciever has that semi circular cutout to accomadate the 8mm mauser round also weakening it. The margin of safety is smaller.

I’m not an expert on these but that’s what I’ve read in my research about the Italian conversions (I’ve heard the HK german ones are safer) . I have pics somewhere showing how the inside of the reciever was cut for 8mm mauser. I’d have to dig them up.

If I’m mistaken someone please correct me, I’m no expert. I don’t know exactly how safe they are, ive never heard of one failing, but a regular 6.5 is definitely safer. Eventually I’ll get around to shooting mine but with lower pressure hand loads, no Turk 8mm for me lol

I just read something that I found quite interesting about these rifles...gain twist rifling was supposedly used on these 6.5's.
Is that true guys?
