Anyone else love enfield sporter?

This is my current deer gun.

1899 Lee Enfield Cavalry Carbine with peep sight and modified woodwork. It points and shoots like a BB gun!

I bought it with mind to restore it, however, it shoots so well and is a joy to carry, it will stay as it is for the next while.

I prefer my long Lee sporters for some reason but also have a couple smle that are great shooters and waiting for Tuesday as I have a sporter p14.. Coming... Some days I'm glad the wife doesn't pay attention to the gun room

Nice, i love all LE/LM rifles. The sporters are just as cool and fun as the untouched/restored rifles. I have a few restored ones, a few sporters and now a few chambered in very odd calibers. (Some of these barrels were sent off to a friend before i ever got to shoot them) Such as, 22rf ,32 SW/32HR, 25-20, 38-40, 44-40, 43 mauser, 410shot and 6.5x52r

Barrel nuts and changable bolt heads makes head space easy and you can put any barrel you want on with out modding the receiver or barrrel. Welllllll some times the barrel if the knox has to be turned down and threaded. Ony the 43 mause barrel so far had to be machined

This English 1943 was once a sporter and my first rifle. Had a great time bringing it back to its former glory. This is back when the rifle could be bought for 100 and restored for a 100 though. Its not really economical to restore them anymore.

I will be picking up this 1944 long branch on July 5th for a staggering price of zero dollars. Very excited. Any one know what the deal with the grip is? Never seen one like that before

I actually want to do some refinishing to my 1897 mle just get some oil out of stock.. Not sure if I want to Reblue it or keep patina

Riley, if you cant decide what to do with the finish, then do nothing. Once the patina is gone, the rifle will look like any other worn gun.
You cant put those signs of age back on!

It is a sporter, so if you just cant live with the old patina and were wishing for a spiffy new finish, I suggest hitting the metalwork with a spray can of BBQ or exhaust manifold paint. EEk!

I do it with my restorations in progress. Often I have bare metal polished and ready for finish. A thin coat of spray paint stops any rust forming until I have everything ready for bluing. It works better than oiling or grease, it is much cleaner and effective. It also lets me see how the metalwork is looking, . The paint can be removed with a lick of paint remover, it lifts it in seconds.

I have painted hunting guns that get hard use in wet weather. The temporary paint has lasted for years, rust never a problem.

What I suggest is reversible should the brand new look on that gun not be right for your eyes. The rifle looks restorable with a little work.

I find its hit or miss with sporter enfields, they're either ###y AF or straight up ugly...

Mine was ugly, was given to me by a friend who's young sun was marching through the house with it so he didn't want it around anymore.
i turned it into a jungle carbine, looks pretty authentic.

I'm currently working up loads for the '97 and' 01, they seem to like 200gr cast.. Seeing how fast I can push them.. And it's surprising how tight the bores are on these rally old ones.. The 97 slugs at. 3125 and the01 . 313

I have a number of Enfield sporters, globe, Parker hale etc. Great guns and the price was right at the time.
303 calibers have killed everything next to 3006 and 8mm.
First big caliber gun for most Canadian hunters

There seems to be a lot of hate for sporter Enfields, but I feel they seem to be like a decent first full-calibre rifle especially considering how cheap they are

I prefer the rifles in original wood.

but I won't turn down a sporter for the right price.

I have really been concentrating on the older (pre 1906) rifles lately. Restoring No4 and No1 enfields is getting to be cost prohibitive, so for the money I might as well go older. I have 2 carbines that need a lot of TLC. I also have a commercial long lee sporter that will stay just the way it is.

^^ thats exactly how i feel about them and what im doing with them, pre 06 is where i focus too, i hope to find another LEC or two but for now its long mlm and mle ive been working on.

Anyone else notice the cost of sporters s has gone Crazy?

5-6 years ago it was nothing to get an uncut sporter for 125or 150 now I see butchered ones for 300!
