Anyone else seeing more eagles this year?

I do a lot of hiking at camp and in the past 3 years I have begun to see eagles more and more. Actually, 3 years ago was the first time I had ever seen one at camp. (wmu 43a, Manitoulin Island, Ontario). Last summer I spotted a nest while out fishing and got treated to one of the eagles hunting fish all morning. Pretty cool to see what they can grab with those talons! This was in august/september and the bird appeared to be moulting (right word?) but still cool to see. Last week at camp I walked up on one within about 15', which I didn't even see. Man, that scared the crap out of me when she/he took off! And another took off from a tree just outside camp as I was coming back in. Ofcourse didn't have a camera with me any of the time. Hopefully there is more than one pair around my place. Anyone else seeing these guys?

Eagles are fairly common around here but you never get tired of watching them. The nests will be spaced as they are territorial to a degree for nesting. If you saw one that looked like it was moulting it may have been a juvenile as the classic white head and tail feathers do not form until they are adults. Until then they have dirty mottled sort of look, kind of a faded brown and white mixed together. They are scavengers and also catch live fish which you witnessed. Do you have Osprey in your area? If so the eagles will wait until the Osprey snag a fish and steal it from them. That is always quite a show.

They fly over Montreal fairly regularly. People are surprised to hear this but the fact is that no one is looking high enough.

The way you described is exactly how this guy looked. Hopefully I will be seeing a few more in the coming years. No Osprey in my area that I am aware of, but it would be cool to see that go down too.

Eagles are fairly common around here, in the Winter. Nothing noteworthy to see one. Got mostly Bald ones, Got a pic somewhere of seven in a tree , but every once in a while a Golden makes an appearance. In Ab you can keep them as Found Wildlife if you find a dead one. Taxidermist told me he gets a lot during calving season. Eagle goes to eat the after birth and chokes to death.:D

Saw an osprey carrying a fish this morning on the way to work. Don't see bald eagles very often, but plenty of osprey, peregrine and red tails. I've noticed an uptick of raptors in general in the last couple years, spotted mostly along the highways around here. Looking for roadkill probably...

The eagles always ran the show on the moose kills on the railroad. Once the light started to go they left. The crows had to wait their turn. The eagles would gorge themselves and it was hard to achieve lift off. If you are ever out west, time it for the eulichon (spelling) run on one of the major rivers and nature puts on a full show. Early spring and it lasts for a couple weeks.

We've had this guy and his/her partner build a nest on the cell tower at work. They've been hanging around there since March or April. If anyone is interested in seeing them they are at the corner of Gore Rd. and Sovereign Rd. in London, right near Gobles Firearms. I've also seen mature Bald Eagles on at least a couple occasions this summer.

There are so many in the Fraser valley at times, they get a yawn response from me. During the salmon spawning time from October through February, they gather by the hundreds.
I would much rather see any of the other birds of prey. I think Ospreys are neat. We have a number of redtails in our area. They follow us in the field when cutting, catching mice. They sure can drop fast to catch a running mouse.
The pigeon hawks(not sure of their proper name) are impressive to watch when they are after a starling. I have seen them catch up to fleeing and screaming starling within 100 feet when the starling has a head start.
And seeing a peregrine slam a pigeon in mid air is something to see.

This nest is off the road going to the BVP & Castle Mountain Junction, as you take the exit ramp off HWY 1 north to HWY 93 west to B.C.

(instead of turning left to HWY 93, go right towards the river) Pics were taken 3 weeks ago...

No eagles around here, but I was combining on the weekend and the one field had one or two hawks every 50 ft in this one field. Counted at least 32 and there were probably more over the hill. Later I counted 35 flying over some trees.
