Okay, been shooting pistol for about a year now and love it. I started with a 1911 Norc and promptly upgraded to a CZ Shadow. While using the Shadow I acquired a thumbs forward grip and it's natural to me now. Here is the problem though... I have a Hi-Power MkIII that is my pride and joy, but my thumbs are too darned long and I keep holding the slide stop down! Been trying to adjust my grip and I'm slowly getting better but still get the occasional slide dropped on and empty chamber. Anyone else have this problem with their pistol(any make)?

Another thing I noticed myself doing as well is contacting the slide with my right thumb slowing it down. I can feel it slowing the slide but no jams yet, just sluggish extraction. I figure that I picked up the habit from the CZ with the slide's smaller profile.

Random topic but hey I can't be the only one suffering from long thumbs:D

Have you considered getting a revolver instead? ;)

Make sure that your thumb is not long enough to get too close to revolver cylinder, that would be very painful solution to your 'length issues', that would be NO longer. (pun intended)

Hi, my name is 9 and I have long thumbs.

Seriously though, I have the same problem. The first time I shot my Glock I thought the gun was fubar. It took about 50 rounds to figure it all out, now it's second nature.

peace..

Glad to see I'm not alone! I have been getting better with the Hi-Power and I think my new grip will have my right thumb either pointing forward and up or resting on my other hand. I'll have to see which one works better as that pistol almost disappears in my grip:D

Helps too that I relieved the hammer some so that I don't get that nasty bite mark on the web of my hand.
