Saw something on the net about fireforming 9.3 X 74R to make 410 brass. Would be interested in reloading them with homemade bullets. Couldn't find any normal press sizing and seating die for this specific diameter.
41 magnum bullets seem to be the closest bullet mold unless you make your own mold. Been reloading several calibers for a long time but never really paid attention to this caliber. Factory slugs are pricey and think they could be loaded for much cheaper.
Anyone ever tried this one out ?
 
Might also consider 41 LC bullets.
Pure lead cast Hollow base coming out of the case at .385 dia, could likely use plastic as fit probably wouldn't be a problem.
I've a 410 under 22 lr myself. 410 is a surprisingly potent little gun
 
I've fire formed both .444 Marlin and .303 British for handloading the .410 in a Judge. Word of warning: There's a lip in the cylinder to prevent .454 Casull from being fired in the Judge and the fire forming often will "grab" this lip and make it a PITA to get the shells out.

I have fire formed 303 Brit. I got best results when I annealed the brass, first. Have heard 444Marlin also works. That would be a better bet, since the work has been done.

For slugs I tried lead pistol bullets (forget which one) and lead balls intended for a BP revolver.
 
I also used .303 cases for my conversions and they worked okay. Was only worthwhile because of the mountains of .303 brass I have collected from the range every hunting season.
I had a full choke in my .410 that measured .350" or .360" or something so tried 9mm handgun bullets (.355"). Tumbled and where all over the place.
Unless you have a rifled barrel you will get a lot of shots tumbling with pistol bullets. Round balls is probably a better choice.
 
What about sizing die after those brass were fireformed. Did you guys ever re-size the brass and if so, did you use a shotgun press or a normal rcbs type press ?
 
I read that you can use .45ACP dies to resize .410 brass cases but I haven't fired mine enough to need to. At the pressures in shotshells the brass lasts forever and mine still slide in. It is a single shot though so I'm not sure how it would work in a pump or other action.
 
I have a bunch of converted 303 brass that i re-size with a 444 marlin die when they start to get hard to extract. 45 ACP, 45 colt, 45-70 will work but you can only do about 1/2 the case before it will destroy your brass.
 
I had a little single baikal that i made 410 brass out of 303 for. I had to use a file to slim down the rim to get lockup. But the good news is that those 303/410 cases will last indefinitely... much longer than they do in my enfield. It was quite a bit of work.
 
444 brass works great , used a ball , haven't had to resize them yet as I've only used a dozzen..
BTW there was a guy at the Dawson Cr. gun show the last couple years now , that was selling 410 Brass cases ...Price ??
 
Tried fireforming 303 british brass after annealing the top of the brass. I either heated them much or didn't go down far enough with the torch. Result: only the top of the case fireformed. Ugly looking brass. Will try again after annealing other cases differently. Some guy also has some Marlin 444 cases for me so will give that a try. Bore slugs at .397" at the muzzle so it is not a cylinder barrel (Boito 410 Hiker). Ordered a .401 Lee mold on Ebay. Might paper patch them up to .410. Found a used 410 Lyman slug mold but the core pin is missing. Must be easy to make my own. Thinkl I found myself a neat little winter project.
 
What kind of loads are you guys using and are you using a plastic wad or something kind of filler.
 
I had an old damascus barrel 410 that I was loading all sorts of ammo for. Started with 444 Marlin brass, 41g FFG and a 41 mag bullet, 3/8 Oz of lead shot, or 3 4Buck. Loads of fun! Very inexpensive! Oh and cover the powder and whatever is inside with a cardboard shot card and seal the top with wax.

Just run through a 444 sizing die
On a standard press, a 44 Mag crimp die does a nice job of the top!
No need to use press for the bullet, 444 Marlin is .429 ID the 41 mag is .409 if I remember correct. Be sure the choke doesn't squeeze beyond half of the lube groove depth, we'll with the old girls anyways... ;o)
