Hi I am interested in seeing if anyone has ever had a problem recycling a Benelli M2 20ga using a Cremator long range choke and #2 hypersonic steel loads? I just sold a 20ga and the buyer says it's not recycling. It worked fine for me with #7.5 hunting loads and Benelli chokes when I tried a box several months ago. It doesn't like target loads, which I advertised in the original ad on CGN. In recent times it began to occasionally fetch up after the first shot using target loads. It was ok when first purchased new but it has sat for a bit and had only a few sporting clay outings with that target load problem. I'm surprised those powerful loads are resulting in recycling issues. Could the recoil be too heavy? Does an aftermarket choke make a difference (it shouldn't?)

I always guarantee my sales and will refund the purchase price less my shipping fees when I receive it in the same condition it was when I sent it. The buyer has agreed to try it again. I had suggested the original Benelli Crio chokes. (IC for steel) I'm just looking for some explanation of why these malfunctions might have occurred. Your experiences in this area would be appreciated. I don't want to have my trader rating affected and will definitely take it back if this issue can't be resolved to the buyer's satisfaction.

Thanks, Allan

Was it cleaned and lubed? Everyone says Benellis should be run dry but my buddies SBE2 was always giving him grief until one day I watched to see him work it and the action slid closed like it was in molasses and had to be hand locked into battery by pushing ahead on the bolt. I said maybe you oiled it too heavy and he said he doesn’t lube it at all as he was told to run it dry. I grabbed my remoil in my blind bag and gave the bolt mechanism a light shot and wha-la away it went working perfectly. All these years later he still runs it dry then gets po’d when it starts jamming and out comes my remoil to get him back in the game again.....
And the choke won’t change how it works. If it was a gas operated gun I’d say clean the gas valve and barrel bleed off holes but it’s an inertia operated gun. If the shell generates the required rearward energy needed to blow the bolt rearward it should function.

I bet he took it apart and then put the spacers back in wrong. I don't know how Benelli's go together but every other recoil operated gun I've seen has a right way and a wrong way to install the washers. A little oil might not hurt but there is very little that will stop a recoil operated gun from cycling.

If you're talking about the friction rings like on the old Auto 5's the Benelli's don't have that. It's just a bolt with a tail on it. The tail compresses a spring which is what sends the bolt back up into battery after firing.

My shot in the dark would be lack of proper lubrication or depending on round count, age, etc. It's possible that the recoil spring is worn out, too weak for the rounds he's using, or broken.

I like the lube suggestion. I did ask the buyer if he lubed the gun but I didn’t get a reply. He did say he was going to try it again. To all those who replied, “thanks”.

Why will your trader rating be affected by this little hick up (rhetorical question) you have been up front and have not fallen off the face of the earth over this.
I'm thinking the gun needs a cleaning and a good lubricant in some key areas.
I dont own a Benelli or a Beretta so no real first hands on experience.
It is something simple and the new owner should investigate a little further is my .05 worth of opinion.

The Benelli shotguns are like ak47's, they rarely have problems. If it was my gun and I was having this problem I would take the gun apart and give it a good cleaning. Then lightly lube the moving parts. The Benelli's are so simple to clean and lube is should not be a problem. Second problem might be the action spring in the stock, especially if any water has ever got into it. Remove stock and inspect spring for any signs of rust. The stock spring usually is good for many hundreds of rounds. Thirdly operator error, is the shooter holding the stock of the gun firmly against his shoulder? The bolt to cycle properly needs a ferm hold against the shoulder or it will fail to work properly.

Curious how heavy the shot is in the hypersonic steels? Sometimes they drop shot weight to pick up velocity and In my experiences, this can really affect certain shotguns.

Well - Those Hypersonics have been known to make mincemeat out of a few actions, including a buddies Browning. Might be worth trying some more typical steel loads...
