Anyone ever heard of the FNH A3 G?

All the M24 is a tricked out Model 700...

There are cheaper models, the FN A1 is around $1400. (Not sure why that one's 1000 less. The only difference I see is the stock)

They run expensive because they've got a 1 MOA gauantee on all rifles. They are hand glass bedded and factory tested.

The A3G is a very expensive gun, much more then the rest of the line and you can do much better up here. If you have your heart set on one, give Mark at Questar a call.

hmmmm if importing really jacks the price up I might have to research importing myself.... I'm a dual citizen and work in the States in the summer time, that'll leave lots of time for importing.

I'm really looking for something dead-accurate (primarily so I won't have to "upgrade" in a few years when I start to shoot good), and something under $3000 excluding optics. I'd also like something reliable and something unique as well.

I'm told the A3G is built to meet the FBI standards (10,000 rounds under 1/2 MOA), I guess that's why its more pricy.

So far this seems to meet the bill...

I'll still keep my eyes open; half the fun is in choosing a gun is the research :)

"10,000 rounds under 1/2 MOA..." Extremely difficult to believe.
"commsercial" Ahem! Somebody needs to be fired.
"...research importing myself..." Read the Stickies on the 'Legalese' page. It takes several months to get the U.S. export permit that requires a Canadian import permit(the only thing you'll ever get for free from our government) to get.
Be prepared to pay Duty(NAFTA does not apply), GST and PST (if there is such a thing where you are). Check the State residency requirements for whichever State you go to. Most have a minimum residency time before you can buy any firearm.

Might be difficult. They aren't approving export certs. for "tactical sniper rifles". It's like Remington you can get some of their commerical police 700P, but you can't get their M-24 or high end rilfes.

Hmmm thats a bummer. Well if it's any consultation, according to the online registration database, someone has one of the models in their series, but there isn't any specifics. It only says its a Special Police Rifle, so it could be any model in that line.

FN has a PBR (Patrol Bolt Rifle) which is similar to the A3 only it has a Hogue stock and the initial accuraccy results are not quite what the A3 gets, they guarantee 1.5moa and 1 moa for the SPR. It runs just over $1000 USD.

Just another option.

I read somewhere the G3 was original build for the FBI, hence the MOA requirement, can't remember where though.

I personally would consider the Remington 700 SPS tactical over the FN PBR.

I was just over on sniper central... apparantly they are having good expiriences with it. Some guy got a facotry target with .25 MOA. Some other guy says he averages .3 MOA with just about whatever he throws down the barrel. He best was 7 shots .197".

Apparantly the A3G has bedding blocks as well as regular hand-bedding.

It also has a guarantee of .5 MOA out of the factory.

I think this is the one for me... assuming I can get an export permit for it.

As for the 10000 round thing. The rifle uses the same chrome lined barrels as the ones in the C6 GPMG the Canadian Forces use (FN MAG). And I know those go through tons of rounds and are still reliable.

"Reliable" is the key word here, but for them to claim 1/2 MOA after 10,000 rounds I have to call BS:bsFlag:

The way I see it, they shot the gun 10,000 times, and saw what accuracy they could achieve after that. So, after 10,000 rrounds it still was able to do 1/2 MOA.

I doubt match barrel makers like Krieger, Bartlein, Lilja, Hart, Broughton or the like would stick their neck out and say their barrels will still shoot 1/2 MOA after 10,000 rounds. 10,000 rounds is about twice the life one could expect for one of the above barrel makers.

10,000 rounds for a match rim fire barrel would just be starting to break in, but 10,000 from a .308 and still be 1/2 MOA, I still call BS on that.
