Anyone ever heard of the FNH A3 G?

3.5 years ago I gave up my old work rifle, a .308 to my replacement. At the time, it had over 7000 documented rounds downrange since it had been rebuilt and rebarreled in 1996. Just before I turned it over to the new user, I had the barrel chopped, and a new chamber cut. At the time there was serious throat erosion. The first few inches of barrel had no rifleing left. It still shot ragged one hole groups, though they were starting to open up.

Its still in use, and shooting quite well, though it is finally slated for replacement. I'll have to ask the old smith that built the rifle where he got those barrels from again. So, yes, some barrels will last a while.

I read somewhere that they were probibited in canada and thus you dont see them for sale any where, correct me if im wrong i know it seems weird that they would be. If i remember correctly it had to do with the US state department releaseing it for export due to the fact that thier FBI sharp shooters use it. The gun does have some respectable reviews in terms of preformance to standard features to cost ratio. Let me know if anyone knows other wise on importing this rifle or better yet where to purchace it in canada.

what the FBI does with the rifle means nothing in Canada. it's a bolt gun and it's not a prohib.

IMHO there is nothing mystical in bulding an accurate rifle, good componets, and a good gunsmith is all you need.

There are many gunmiths in Canada (several on this board) that can build a rifle just as good, just as cool, and just as durable for less. If you have $3000 to spend then for my money put 2k in the rifle and 1K in the scope and you will be far ahead of the curve.

As for the 10,000 round bbl, I am skeptical....

I think you need to look at the end of the rainbow, next to the pot of gold for one of those

I had a change to look at one in San diego, the model was a special police, it had an A2 mcmillan stock, abit heavyer barrel than rem700PSS, but the cost are double that of the rem700PSS. $1500US

No would not be if it was in fact allowed to be exported, but it does mean something with the Department of State and they have now banned all export of anything "Police Sniper", if you call Charleton, they will tell you they cannot import it due to US export law.

F-N Special Police Rifle (SPR)

I have an SPR A3G, imported properly, and registered. The FBI rifles are stamped differently, IIRC, but are otherwise identical to the rest of the A3G's. The real obstacle to getting one is the backorders with FNH USA. The rifles are in high demand by LE organizations, and first priority goes to filling those orders. FN doesn't seem terribly concerned about meeting civilian market demand, as they have guaranteed sales to LEO's.

Mine has some minor custom work (flush-mount sling points, ST2 finish on barrel/receiver, Accuracy-International style bipod mount). It has a high cool factor.
