Hi, Since the Mossberge MVP Predator doesn't seems to be able to find its way up here in canada, I was thinking to take my Rem 700 5R in 223 to a gunsmith and have the barrel cut and re-crowned to 20in. I don't intend to do much shooting over 400y anyway. Then maybe putting on a DBM on it
Anyone here ever did that kind of modification on his 5R (barrel cutting)?

Thanks.

When I checked into having a barrel modified the cost was near the cost of a replacement. Have you looked into buying a 20" barrel? Perhaps a SPS Tactical take off barrel?

A. C. Douglas in Saskatoon has shortened many barrels for me over the years, and cost WAY less than replacement. Not sure who told you this. Shortening and recrowning a barrel should not be expensive.

To to OP, sounds like a good idea to me.

Talked to the local gunsmith about the idea, $100 taxes in for cutting and re-crowning to the standard 11deg target crown. It itches me more and more ;)
